I want to run a connection from my backup light (+) to the trigger side of a relay that turns on my installed in-bumper additional backup lights. It now is controlled by a switch, and I want to keep that function. I know I can connect the (+) from backup lights to the relay to turn them on, however I don't want it to back feed when I use the manual switch. So which diode should I use to prevent that?

thank you all in advance.

1N4001 diode will work. About .50 cents. If your radio shack does not have one, PM me your mailing addy and I will mail you a couple. I have about a hundred in my bench stock. :)
That gesture is EXACTLY why I love this forum!!

Here is what I am sending. (Sending two just in case you need the other, etc)

The red wire is the cathode end. (In the diagram it is the lined end that the arrow is resting upon) So connect the red wire towards the relay and you'll be all set. I tested them out on the bench before I packed them up. Should be headed your way today or Monday. (we're headed out the door for Mojave Rd)

Nick,

I'm in the process of wiring my backup lights and I wanted to take a look at your diagram picture and it is not visible now. Do you think you can repost it? Thanks Phil

darn crummy secondary image hosting website issues

If the images are made available, please post them directly to your post so they stay and don't disappear like that in the future.
