Hi Perry
I like your Caravan ....and with the FJ it looks great.
Desert in Spain ! have you been around Alicante?
you are looking for a roof rack. I took my roof rack off and would sell it.
they cost new here € 890,-. I would sell it for € 600.-
I live near Regensburg, which is 150km north-east of Munich.
where do you live in France ?
bye

I live 80km south of Toulouse on the way to Andorra.
Nice to know you have a roof rack, I'll have a think and get back to you.
Do they make any noise ?

I love Andorra, went there October last year, fantastic country! :)

I'm off Wednesday/Thursday next week to the Saint Raphael/Cannes area, visiting the area with my FJ Cruiser, will post photos on here for everybody to see!

I've been thinking about doing a road trip from where we live in Naples, up the west coast of Italy through France and Monaco. Has anyone done some driving in that area? I imagine it's pretty flat near the coast like that, but is there any offroad driving or camping? Also, how easy is it to cross the Italy-France Border. The Italy Switzerland border was really easy...they just waved us through. I need to get as many country stickers for the FJ as I can before we head back to the states.

It'd be great to have some sort of FJ gathering with those of us from Italy, Switzerland, France, and Spain!

Ciao,
Kevin

Hi there Kevin,

Never done the coast up to Italy, I'll take notes when I get down there. It'd be great to have some sort of FJ Cruiser get-together, keep me posted as I'd love to know what's being planned. If you are in my neck of the woods please do not hessitate to contact me!

I'm back already, didn't get further than the Jura mountain range in France - it was too friggin cold and I snapped something in my back shovelling snow, so decided to cancel going further down South this week.

Anyway thanks for the trip suggestions above, I'm always looking for good places to explore.

Here are some pictures from the Jura in France:

and the "camp site":

There was a mix of steep hillsides, deep snow, soaked muddy ground underneath, and fallen trees and branches on narrow trails. Even with 4x4, rear locker, A-Trac, mud tires and snow chains I had to give up climbing some of the paths after several tries. Even managed to bust up one of the tire chains, fortunately I didn't loose it and it can be repaired.

Perry - think twice about roof rack; it's probably the one item that can cost you most in petrol economy (not counting your caravan) especially when going fast on the highways. With the roof rack (without the roof top tent), mud tires and fully loaded cargo I get 5,65 km per litre of 95 unleaded petrol (17,71 litres per 100 km, or 13,28 MPG for the metrically challenged). I have the Gobi Ranger rack and four roof mounted lights, so probably one of the worst offenders, I am sure the standard Toyota rack has a much smaller impact.

I would also love some kind of FJ gettogether, maybe a Spring meeting in Southern France or in Spain??

Just stop by any toyota dealer in Germany. I cannot believe they are selling the RAV-4 for over 30K euros. Land Cruisers go for upwards of 50K. They are crazy expensive here.

For those in the military, I have found that AAFES is a good source. I wanted the ARB bull bar and to get it over here was 1500 euros to the door (through a british importer). AAFES got it to me for 1400 dollars. About 7 weeks. Most places in the states will ship to you as long as it is accepted in USPS. Rock rails, bumpers, winches, are of course problems, but even though AAFES is more than the states, they are way less than having them imported here. I did check on shipping, and with VAT forms and Customs documents, I could have had the bumper shipped to the airport and picked it up there. Would have been about the same cost as AAFES, but more work on my part.

Your camping area in France looks like the perfect place for an FJ gathering! It looks like it is about mid-way between spain, france, and switzerland. it would be a bit more of a hike for people from Germany or Italy, but not too bad. Think of the pictures you could take with the campground full of FJs. I'd definitely want to camp out there.

I'm sure anywhere we decide, we'll get a lot of looks. Even more attention than the large FJ gatherings in the states. Who knows, maybe we'll make the news.

I recommend the US Labor Day weekend, which is usually the first weekend in September. That is a long weekend for some of us, and maybe long enough in advance that the others can take a few days off from work.

Let me know what you think.

Ciao,
Kevin

Germany in the Bavaria area here. I've seen probably 5 other FJ's here now. Mine was the 1st around 2 years ago. I still can't find anyone here thats actually done anything in the way of mods. The only upside I see to being here is I heard you can find a good local paint job for a good price as well as many locals who can weld and work on cars would love to make an exhaust.

I bought all my mods from the US but you could try the german Nestle and Extrem.

Will you be coming to the European FJ Cruiser Gathering?

Oh, and what's up with the "new driveshaft" mod you have planned?

You're doing an excellent job spreading the word!
There's an active FJ group in Kazakstan, and Kung Fu Panda in Sochi has contributed a great deal - check his build thread....maybe contact him? GL :smile

Hi! I drive a FJ Cruiser in West Africa but was wondering if any of you have found a good source for spare parts in Europe, particularly in Germany as I often go there. I need to replace my radiator and condenser unit. Do you happen to know if I can take one from another toyota model? Hilux for example?

Many thanks!

Welcome from the UK.

I used to buy all my Land Cruiser parts from All American Imports in The Netherlands and they had or could get all parts for FJ's too but haven't been able to contact them recently so not sure if they are still in business. There are lots of Land Cruiser specialists in Germany too but not had dealings with anyone. I have a Cruiserhead friend in Germany, I'll ask him for any recommendations. If you find anything please share.
