Hello,
Ive been working on installing my expo one bumper all day and have hit a few annoying road blocks and could use some advice. As some of you may know, my fj was rear ended while parked in front of my house. I have it back now and decided to upgrade it vs reinstall the stock equipment.
I bought the quick release hitch, If anyone has installed one of these please help lol. There are two bolts that have a piece of wire welded on the head to help feed them through the frame. They mount inside the frame with the nut on the exterior of the rear frame rail (Facing front of car.) I cant for the life of me, get those in, it feels like the bolt is just a tad to long to get it straight enough to slide it in place.
Secondly, There are two bolts that screw into the frame on the bottom side, these will not thread. Should i retap these?
Now on to the bumper, Ive pretty much got it installed except i cant bolt it to the frame. The supplied bolts do not catch anything when placed in the holes and almost feel way too thin (You can rattle the bolts around.) These mount where the tow hook mounts (the other side has matching holes.) The body shop said the tow hook was still mounted to the frame when they got it from me but they removed it because it was damaged. It doesn't feel like there are any nuts inside the frame, i shined a flashlight into the hole though and i do see maybe an 1/8 plate right above the hole in the frame. It does SORT OF look like there could have been threads in that at some point, but its awful thin to be the nut.
I thought about welding the bumper to the frame, but then i remembered that you cannot access the lights with the bumper on, so at some point when the bulbs go out I cannot replace them if i weld it.
Another thought was to drill a hole all the way through the frame and buy a longer bolt. I do not know if this would cause any issues or not.
The supplied bolt is a m12 bolt, Is this the correct size?
Any help would be appreciated. I need to go out of town in a few days and I would rather not drive 16 hours with a half ass loose bumper haha.
Thanks
