So when we got my FJ we bought it with the top of the line soundsystem that has the 8 inch sub. i have since removed the 8 incher and installed a 12W7 with an 1800 watt amp. Now im wondering what size speakers is my car equipped with because im looking into replacing them for higher quality ones?

There are a few threads and postings on fitting 6x9's into the front doors. Just have to buy a spacer to fit it. Look under the vendor section on the home page, I think there is a couple of audio places in there that sell stuff to do it. Apparently the factory speakers are low quality (from other posts). As for the other speakers - I don't know the sizes.
The factory speakers are indeed total crap. In several weeks I'll be doing a basic upgrade to my wife's '07.

I'll be sealing and deadening the front doors with several layers of sounddamping mat, snaking 14 gauge twisted-pair wire into the doors(a piece of cake on the FJ) and then installing an old US Acoustics USX-2080 amp(80 watts rms x 2) that I had lying around under the driver's seat.

The factory HU will be replaced by a Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X589(the same model in my '98 CRV's system) which I picked up on ebay last week for $60 shipped.

I just need to pick up a set of Polk MOMO 690's(6x9's) in a couple of days.

In a month or two I'll start on the MDF/fiberglass enclosure(which will sit on one of the rear cargo shelves) for an Ascendant Audio Atlas 12. I'll probably be giving my wife the current sub amp in my CRV( a PG Octane 8.0:1...300 watts x [email protected] 4 ohms and 600 watts @ 2 ohms) to power it since I'm looking to upgrade to a Sundown Audio SAE-1000D in the very near future.

Like I said, it will be a basic upgrade but it will blow away the crappy system that she's listening to now.

BTW, you can make a 6x9 spacer out of 3/4" MDF.
