I’ve had my 2010 FJ for a couple of months and it’s been running fine until about a week ago. I went to start it up when leaving work, and it turned over but wouldn’t start. I had it towed to the local dealership. They said it started right up and they didn’t get any codes on the diagnostic. Basically they said it could be a bad fuel pump, but they suggested just keeping the tank as full as possible and whacking the fuel tank with a mallet if it happened again. Well, yesterday I was down to a 1/4 tank and went to start the car-the problem showed up again. I walked to a gas station and put in a couple of gallons of fuel and it started up.

Any insight into what could be causing this?

G'Day,
How did you verify it had 1/4 of a tank left ?
Well know issue of the dash gauge / float level being very inaccurate, is it possible you were just out of gas ?
Several threads on the forum about it... do a search ...
Cheers
Baz

Fuel cool off fuel pumps and for longer live don't run all time low on fuel.Done that on a 03 Avalanche and at 60.000 miles fuel pump quit. When I replaced fuel pump find pump location hi and at 1/4 tank pump was not able to cool off in fuel.Don't know yet on fj but always avoid to keep my tanks low in fuel in any cars driving.
