Hi Guys,

Don't know if anybody else has similar experience, but sometimes when pressing on the brake pedal of the FJ, it makes a funny noise (like the sound of a CD changing) and makes a quick vibration from the pedal. Doesn't affect braking at all. Anybody else have this issue?

This is not an issue that requires attention, it's a normal effect of the type of braking system on the FJ.

The braking system is highly pressurized, to allow the system's ATRAC and the other traction enhancement systems to work properly. There is an electric pump mounted next to the brake master cylinder that pressurizes the unit when you first start it or sometimes after/during a brake application. It will activate whenever the pressure in the reservoir drops below a certain level.

Pump you brakes a few times with the engine idling and you will hear it activating to re-pressurize after a couple presses of your brake pedal.

Thanks again Rover, I hadn't thought twice about it, but my fiance asked (she has an 08 Camry) and said she had never felt/heard anything like that before. Glad to have the answer!

Well thanks for the information. I never noticed any of the small noises, but now that you pointed them out I'm sure they'll drive me crazy! :mecry:

I have the same problem with my fj 2010
I have the same thing going on 2010TT, didn't notice it until about 400mi...

Anyone with more experience/info want to chime in?

Thanks
It's not a problem - it's perfectly normal.

Scroll back up and read RoverGGM's response in post #2. That is the correct answer.

I know the occurrence of this vibration is normal, but how often is normal? I noticed this today and this is happening when i press the brake all the way down, or any combination of presses that amount to a full press. I can, for example, press it 1/2 way down and wait 30 seconds, then press it halfway down again and it vibrates. It's very irritating. I feel like Toyota planted a vibrating dildo in my pedal.

For those wondering/seeking verification on this issue...

My FJ brake pedal started to vibrate every 3rd, and sometimes even 2nd, time that I would press down on it. I read this thread and started to believe it was normal and it was just the pump, but wanted some peace of mind so I took it in anyway. My FJ has 7,600 miles on it so its still fairly new and I figured I'd be safe rather than sorry.

I took a test drive with one of the Master Techs at Toyota of Orange (Southern California) and he was able to identify the same vibration and confirmed what everyone else on here has already mention, this is simply the abs pump creating pressure in the system. He assured me that many sensors and precautions were put in place to monitor the system and if anything went wrong with it my VSC/ABS/TRAC lights would light up on the dash.

I took it in because 1. I didnt know how frequent these vibrations were "supposed" to happen, it seemed a little excessive to me, and 2. Ive driven 7600 miles and never once noticed it so i thought it was a new problem/issue....Turns out all is good though.

No noise but funny feeling in brakes.

Took it in today for service and they tell the front calipers are shot because there may be a blown seal somewhere in the front brakes and 'something' is leaking.

Gee and only $1100.00 to fix it. :flame:
