Hello,

As those of us know who are Ham Radio operators, there is a definite benefit to having ham radio capabilities on the trails during the Summit. Last year ham's were able to assist in a couple of emergencies where there was no cell phone coverage and individuals needed assistance.

In an attempt to document who has ham radios in their FJ's please sign in below.

Please provide the following information:

Name:
Callsign:
License Class:
VE (?):
Equipment (2m, 70cm, APRS, HF, etc.)
Trails and times:

I'll start

Dale Durham

VE: Yes
Yaesu Dual band 2m/70cm, APRS, HF

Trails:
Thursday Trail Run: Imogene Pass Photo Trail at 09:20 AM
Friday Trail Run: Poughkeepsie Gulch at 07:20 AM
Saturday Trail Run: Black Bear Pass to Ophir Pass at 08:30 AM

Cheers,

dale

I don't like to give my call sign all over the internets but I'll be happy to give it at the Summit or to someone if they decide to put a list together to give out at Summit.

Name: Mike
License Class: Technician
VE (?): Nope
Equipment (2m, 70cm, APRS, HF, etc.): Currently Baofeng UV-5R+ - will have a mobile rig installed before summit.
Trails and times: Thursday Trail Run: Black Bear Pass to Ophir Pass at 08:00 AM
Friday Trail Run: California/Corkscrew sponsored by Discount Tire at 09:10 AM
Saturday Trail Run: Imogene Pass Photo Trail at 09:20 AM

I may upgrade to the General license before the Summit but we'll see if time allows for it. Otherwise if there ends up being a test session there, I will probably take the general exam there.

FYI your ham call is in public domain. It's a public record since it is a federal license and you have to give it when you transmit. So, whether or not you put it on the internet is really a moot point! Many of us have our ham call on our state license plate! :)

I'm planning on having a VE test session at the Summit. Hence the reason I'm trying to determine who is a VE to help test anyone who wants to take the technician test or upgrade.

Do you have APRS? I'm trying to see who has APRS capability to determine if many/most of the trail runs can be monitored from base camp via APRS.

Cheers,

dale

I know it's public domain and I give it every time I transmit - but I don't give out my forum names to all the forums I'm on at the same time. At least I can pretend in my head that people can't see I own a new truck - then look up my address on where to steal it from and all of my company's info :bigthumb:

Of course I know the NSA has all of this anyways...

I don't have a mobile rig in my truck yet but plan on having one with ARPS capability before the Summit. So ... maybe.

Here is a map of my APRS coverage from 2012 just to give you an idea.
I have an HTX-202 (5w), KPC3 and a 1/4 wave mag mount on top.
I got the data from APRSfi after we got back to Ouray.

My path is wide1-1,wide2-2

I've attached a Google Earth KMZ file of my 2013 Summit7 APRS track.
Waypoints are in sequential order starting from Engineer on the east.
We came from Lake City over Engineer to Ouray.
