Our FJ has suffered two massive non repairable stone chips from an oncoming lorry speeding through a large puddle. One massive chip in the MOT failure zone too.

Has anyone had a screen replaced in the UK?

Am under the impression is one of the worst things to happen on an import FJ in the UK that would otherwise be routine repair in native production lands.

Advice on what we need to do please?

The truck is in daily commute use of 120mile and will be a big loss.

There are lots of links on here about screens and plastic trim popping off. I had a screen done locally to me on my Honda and they had done an FJ.

Your insurer will have a preferred supplier. You just need to make it very clear that they MUST replace all the trim clips at the same time. The screen will probably have to come from TGB so they should be able to order the trim clips at the same time.

I must admit this is one of my greatest fears!

i sent a number of emails to the larger windscreen fitters/suppliers with that query in the event it happened to me. Sadly they couldn’t help and even if I managed to source a screen they wouldn’t fit it, albeit I suspect a smaller local fitter would.
It maybe worthwhile getting a quote on how much to ship one to the UK and store it in the event it happens!

Good luck and keep us posted

Can I assume you are going through your insurance and if so who will be supply & fitting the windscreen?

Also as a matter of interest who are you with?
Fingers crossed for you

Annoying that it happened, upset on the day it happened but much more relaxed about it now as response has been positive from the above.

Will post back to thread as and when.

Good to know, my friend works for Belron. I will know who to ask for favour, if needed.

I had similar size crack in Audi provided by their assistance, luckily was never charged for the fix. I thought, that the stone will go through the glass and hit me.

I'm not sure where I found these instructions (may have been on here) but posting as could at least provide a starting point for window techs in the UK with no knowledge of the intricacies of whats involved. Like others I fear the day my windscreen needs replacing but somehow it seems inevitable.

I hope all goes well with the repair/replacement.

let us know how it all went and did they replace all the trim clips as advised? Where in the UK are you based and did you have to travel far?

Being nosy as I have no doubt this event will come my way!

Good luck with the repair. It’s something I think about. I picked up two minor windscreen chips when I lived in Dubai (which I just had fixed) as well as one on a hired FJ when I was on holiday in Australia. It’s a shame that they are so prone to damage like this.
