X2 on the removal, my only other suggestion would be leave it off and get a real skid from one of the venders on here, Demello, BudBuilt, Allpro etc. You obviously proved you wheel hard enough to justify the price. the stock skids are made for looks only. they may save ya once or twice but eventually it's just gonna rip or tangle under your rig and potentially cause more damage than without it.
