Weld a hitch receiver into the frame



Put a bumper over it

I agree that would be a nice option and provide better clearance and probaly add strengh over the stock oem bolt on.

My custom steel bumper has the hitch reciever integrated into the bumper. I had to use a torch and plasma cutter to cut the center out of the frame. Toyota did a heck of a job reinforcing that area where the oem hitch bolts onto the frame. My bumper uses all the mount points on the frame. I was going to weld in the backside but then I want to be able to remove for maintenance.

Let me get this right.
You're wondering why a vehicle manufacturer doesn't make a part standard, at their own cost, to rob themselves of an accessory sale... Accessory business is HUGE $$$!!!
Also, that height might be too high for design rules in certain markets etc etc.
