I'd like to tell Toyota today, March 12, 2020 to go ? off. Their paint on my 2010 Army Green has failed, miserably I might add after years of upkeep, wax and TLC in the sunshine state.
Just brought ride in today to local dealership. They were all over it like pimps in a cheap suit quivering like hamsters in Key West pet store. I told them that this was B.S.
To all you out there whom have experienced similar, I know chief mechanic in my VC FL shop and he knows that Toyota is about Fn' ready to issue recall on their shoddy FJ paint jobs. Stay tuned for more. I won't back down.
I really wish there was a hood paint recall! My hoods paint is totally destroyed and getting it repainted is on my to do list but it would be nice if there was a recall so I could use that money to some mods instead
I'd even hate to get a repaint anymore. With the new waterborne paints that a lot of shops use nowadays, they chip just from looking at them, especially certain colors. Over on the Miata forum, the Soul Red paint Mazda uses chips like crazy, but their grays are not as prone. It's not like the old days of bullet proof but environmentally unfriendly enamel paint. Cripes, you could walk on that stuff and nary put a scuff in it. PPF (paint protective film) applications are starting to sound good with these modern paints anymore, but it's costly.
My hood is embarrassing with all the spots from clear coat missing. I really think Toyota should do a recall or at least pay something towards a new paint job. I don’t see this happening on other vehicles, my hubby’s Chevy trucks never have this problem. The FJ IMO is the best damn truck, I just need to figure how I can pay to get it repainted because it deserves the best.
Most all paint jobs will fail if they are not maintained properly.
