Purpose:
Really want an expedition vehicle that is ready for anything. I see some light rock crawling (no KOH type stuff), a little bit of sand, mud and water; but mostly just scenic trail rides and camping outdoors.

I won't bore you with what came on it from the dealer, but here is a pic:

Build Contributors
A well-rounded architect, that goes by the handle "Bert" in these forums, did much of the work with me (i.e. all the real work) on my build over the first few months. He did a nice job on Memphibious and I learned alot working with him. I had quite a bit in store for this build and I feel it has moved quickly. Will "Raggler" also wrenched with us quite a bit and his help was much appreciated (I am still embarrased how much bigger his rig is than mine). Running out of time and energy before summit, I hired a local shop named, "Bohannan's." I have been impressed with the freelance work they have done on my rig with very little instruction on my part. They improvise where needed (such as my roof rack light mounts, exhaust and switches) and do it "right" the first time. Another forum member, AZRANGER, helped put the snorkel on and I am sure we will do further work in the future.

Re: Hornsfan's TBD Build

Shipping is the enemy right now. I was hoping to get some stuff in before the weekend to do some work; however, I watched the interweb all day today and it looks like my suspension, dual battery system, aux fuel tank and bumpers will not make it until Monday at the earliest. Needless to say, Bert and I will be quite busy next weekend.

In the mean time, I think I have found a local shop that will weld my rim stiffeners and balance my BFGs at the same time (has been tough to find a shop that can do both here in NW Arkansas).

Re: Hornsfan's TBD Build

Finally...suspension made it in:

Hopefully this will be a busy weekend for Bert and I. Icon Stage 5 and Dirty Parts dual battery are here and I believe that the MAF aux fuel tank and Trail Gear sliders will be here by Saturday.

The gear pictured does not adequately cover the expanse of work we are attempting this weekend. :rocker:

I am certain that we will get a hell of a lot done and under-document it, but it is likely that we will set a land-speed record for modification of an FJ. :king:

Indeed. The update is that my sliders, aux fuel tank, front bumper and rear bumper will also be here by the weekend.

For those keeping score, the world record attempt this weekend will be:
  1. Full Icon suspention
  2. Dual Battery
  3. Fab Four front bumper
  4. Expedition One rear bumper
  5. Trail gear sliders
  6. MAF auxillery fuel tank
If we make it through half this weekend I would be pleased...we will see. Bert and I will post pictures of progress this weekend.

To bad you guys are working up in God's country (NWA) and not down here or you could use my shop at school. Looks like the floor lift might have come in handy. And Bert thanks again for the wheels!

Re: Hornsfan's TBD Build

Well, no records were broken; however, Bert, Raggler and I did make some progress. Two broken ratchets, one broken pliar, 7 trips to hardware/auto stores and a lot of cussing all conspired together to slow us down. We got the stage 5 + upper links + rear track bar + shin guards on, the fab four bumper on and put the dirty parts battery tray in.

Here are some pictures:
Bumper Installed

Front passenger uca + remote resi coilover

Got stuck in a puddle in the driveway and Raggler had to pull me out:lol:
Actually, during the install the rear axle got off-center and the rear trailing arm could not fit so we used the tow straps to straighten out the axel...hey it worked

Old vs. New

Rear spring w/ jounce shock and new track bar

Front UCA + coilover + jounce shock

As it stands today

Special thanks to Raggler for helping out.
This weekend I hope to get new cleats on and my toy outfitters rim stiffeners on.
