i drove with no air filter; did I cause damage?

Yeah, so I cleaned my K&N last night, and then happily drove to work this morning, having forgotten to put it back in.

So, here's my question did I just destroy my engine or what?

It's a 14 mile trip, all highway, weather was clear, I'm in the Midwest, so no dust/sand in the air, plus the FJ has that perma filter in there

So what do you guys think? any thing I should do/look for-besides remembering to not drive around with out it.

unless it sucked a bug or sand grit then you should be okay....but if it sucked sand in there time will tell.
dude, that's really bad for the engine :( dunno what to tell ya..
dont worry, you will be fine. Slam that filter in and pretend it never happened.
You will find out over time but my guess would be your rig will survive. Many Toyotas have been through much worse and survived, thats why we buy them.

I went home and got the filter in the work truck, came back put it in and told her I was sorry. :mecry:
You should be OK. Your oil and the oil filter will catch anything that could cause harm to the engine. I would go get an oil change ASAP.
I like how you forgot about it  I wouldn't worry if its working...
I did a whole lot worse to mine and it still runs good, you should be fine
Most things will get combusted or get collected into the motor oil. I wouldn't worry too much. When I used to drag a mustang, I would take the filter off the CAI and make several runs. Dust, bugs, I wouldn't worry about. Sand is another story but it doesn't sound like that should be a problem. As said above, if you get that worried, change the oil (I always did before and after a day at the drag strip) and forget about it.
So you sleep beeter at night, take a sample of the oil and send it to Blackstone labs. They analyze it and tell you what the condition of your engine is and how much life is left in the oil. Then you will know for sure what if anything happened. Call them and they send you a kit costs 20.00 bucks. I use them for my diesel truck oil analysis.
You're fine, unless you drove home through a sand storm. I've run a bunch of engines in the past for years with a velocity stack and no air cleaner; probably their bore life was shortened by some amount but one day in yours is not going to hurt.
Thanks for the reassurance, and only a couple of flames:bigthumb:
It's funny I just got the oil changed the day before, I can see I'm destined to be laughed at at least one more time...
came back put it in and told her I was sorry.

LOL well seeing as you said you were sorry everything will be OK.LOL:rofl:

Seriously you have nothing to worry about.
I also think you have nothing to worry about...

BUT, another oil change cannot hurt, IF you think it is necessary.

If not, don't sweat it, and just keep Cruisin'

:D

I think it's sweet that you told her you're sorry. :pinklove: So many men have trouble expressing that to their women...

Oh, wait, you're talking about your FJ, not your woman, right? Well, that's just corny...

I wouldn't worry about it. Do an oil change for peace of mind. And because you asked for it...

I thought that love means never saying you're sorry. I heard that in a movie or somewhere.
