Devon mite i suggest putting a pin or something in the quick release holder. I hit that with my foot at least 3 times a day and have to re latch it . I keep meaning to put a pin in it .

See if this link works. I know my bro got some video but its not great. I just got home at 9pm today and work in the morning lol. I could not have made it up with you Jeff, and Jerry's help. It was alot of fun. I will work on posting the trip report over the next few days.

It may well be the first IFS anything to make it up. Let alone driving it 3500 miles round trip at speeds up to 90 mph along the way lol has to be some sort of record anyway.

Skunks On The Run 2020 Moab --> Rubi Trip Report

This year we tried uncharted territory for the Blue Beast. I took it from Kansas to Moab, then to northern California to do the infamous Rubicon trail, perhaps the most well know 4WD trail in the world. This trip has been probably a year and a half in the making with some friends. The name "skunks" is because some of the FJ's with the white tops look like skunks now. I clocked 3552.6 miles on this adventure. I will preface this report by saying I was initially pretty nervous about how the FJ would handle it with all the new parts. I was only able to get 1 or 2 shakedown runs in. As @debFJVT says, my FJ is like an experimental build at this point. No telling what willl happen. Grab some popcorn and settle in for the story. Somehow the Moab portion feels like a year ago already.

Day 1
Most the way to Moab looked like this haha. Stopped at a gas station. I never tracked gas mileage but still get a little less then my brother's V8 4runner with the same setup I have. My range is a tick under 200 miles I would guess so about 11 mpg at 75-80 mph. Also I now know why I made the bumper corners top flat. Cupholder function is such an improvement over the factory plastic.

We met up at the start of top of the world trail once again that evening, near Moab, Utah. Great crew. My brother, @debFJVT and her nephew in the 5th gen 4runner (he can wheel that thing anywhere on 33's trust me), and Jerry from Texas in his fancy Lexus. The plan is to camp at the top.

Headed up.

Bros on 37's and front LT and lovin it.

She's making all kinds of new noises I'm not used to at this point, from all the new parts. The rear sway bar caps were a little loose but I managed to tighten them up later.
1135491

We made it to the top with plenty of daylight to setup camp and enjoy the views.

Used my fire pit and grilled some hot dogs.

Day 2

The next morning we awoke to 360 degrees of wonderful views.

Broke camp and headed back down to Moab.

Made it down. The crew:

Then we took the beautiful drive back to town where we would assist with some repairs. @Firemedic831 broke a front CV earlier that day and Deb's nephew upgraded to some beefy rear lower links on his 4runner. We just chilled out in the shade.
1135501

Then we did a quick run on Potash road and Shafer switchbacks that afternoon. Part of White Rim Road also if I recall.

Day 3

Day 3 we planned to run the Trifecta of trails which is Poison Spider, Gold Bar Rim, and Golden Spike all in one day. It was destined to be a long one but a good one. Thankfully we have AC and fridges lol, we'll be fine.

Day 3 continued.

1135521

1135522

1135523

1135524

We arrived at the famous Golden Crack obstacle to find it mostly filled in with rocks. We spent about 10 minutes clearing out the rocks to make it more difficult. (there is a bypass in case anybody still wants to use the chicken exit.)

I took a different line here on accident and made it a little harder than needed. Oh well.
1135525

1135526

Then we got to the steep waterfall ish obstacle once again. I was determined to try and make it up the steep way. No problem. Just a little bump.
1135527

1135528

1135529

Mason eventually followed me up the steep way.

Group shot at the end. Finally!
1135530

It was nice to go back to some AC and watch Netflix after ordering pizza haha. End of Day 3.

Day 4

I led us on Steel Bender, with alot of help from @Orion_FJ . If you will recall this is the trail we only did 1/4 of last year before mason's power steering rack issue and we turned around. We were determined to get some revenge this year and complete it.
1135532

1135533

1135534

1135535

Then we got to the sketchy down

hill obstacle near the end and I was the guinea pig on the line choice. I was creepin slow. It was tippy but I had excellent help.
1135536

A couple of us made it down. And Mason winched a couple vehicles down. We all made it without any issues thankfully.

Gaining more confidence in my build, I started trying some harder lines.
1135537

1135538

The exit off the trail is pretty steep but not an issue.
1135539

We met at Milt's for ice cream and fries afterwards, it was delicous. Hope it works out and we see most of you guys next year. End of day 4, our last day in Moab.
