Nice pic bandi.

don't know about the warranty deal but the photo is awesome! Did the engine stall or were ya just buried in the muck? :bandit:
No... The engine was fine and dandy, not a stutter'...
(note the snorkle on the front pass fender and the
exhaust bubbling at the rear)... ;)

I don't care about the warrentee part, it was caused
by my own doing, that's a given... Just needed to
know the cost of them so I can shop around, and if
they are all the same part number...

Sorry I don't have the part #, but I do have a suggestion that I was planning to do next time...

There are 4 pulleys, three different ones. The lowest one has double bearings, and is much tougher. The top two are the ones that kept wearing out on me. I'd say replace the top ones with the bottom. You may want to order the bolt too, since it's slightly longer.

I will post-up if i locate anything... Working on it...

CopyPaste from my post in Cleaning Pulleys

Well my pulleys are starting to go bad too, and I decided to lookup part numbers for pricing and
I discovered that all the FJ parts are donors from other Toyota vehicles mostly tacoma
Maybe with the below information, someone could find stronger/beefier ones
made by a different manufacture at NAPA or PepBoys

^^^ thanks for the cleaning tip, I had picked up
the needle grease probe last week, and gave them
a hit last night, they all went silent after that,
had only two that were real dry/loud, the double
on the bottom, and the pass side single... The
single is shot tho, and will need to be replaced...

I was amazed of how much water shot out of
them when I added the grease !...

While checking the prices at the dealer this
morning, I was told there is a tsb on the bearings,
so toyota knows there is a problem, but my rig is
so covered with mud and dirt, it's a little obvious
what happened....

Single Bearing Idle Pulley - $53
Double Wide Bearing Pulley - $60
Tennsioner Pulley Assembly - $108

I tried throught the carquest, that I have an
account with, to locate something for it, but
some far, the bearing have not matched up yet...

I am thinking of contacting some bearing MFGr's
to see if we can find a cheaper match, has
anyone done this yet ?... The thing I need is a
dead set of pulleys to ship out to one of them...

Anyone have any BAD pulleys they would ship to
me ? on my dime of course !... I would like to get
a hold of all that we need, one tensioner pulley,
one single idler, and one double idler... Any help
would be appreciated !...

OK... Since I am going for a ride in the pines
tomorrow, I did not feel safe with the one
single bearing pulley wobbeling, so I just went
and bought one double and one single, and will
replace the single now, and keep the rest for
back up...

I still would like to get some DEAD pulleys from
anyone who has them so I can still try to get a
generic replacement... PLEASE LET ME KNOW !..

I just had two pulleys and my alternator replaced, I was under warranty but they wouldn't cover it because they found debris/mud in the alternator. So 700 bucks later my high pitched noise is gone. Any one have a solution for me to keep **** out of there, other then the obvious of staying out of murky water holes?

Im stumped then. it doesnt do it all the time, especially in the morning or first start up. Doesnt make the sound until the Fj is warmed up and has been driven for a bit. I looked at all the pulleys and I cant see any wobling or worn. I did see today some light powdery dust like road salt on one of them. I just bought the Fj so IDK what was replaced beforehand (nothing on carfax). Thanks for all the help!

PS. So it is safe to try the belt dressing as a test?

Spray either water, belt dressing, something (not oil or lubricants) at each of the bearing to see if the noise goes away for a second, if so, then you found the problem... you can isolate by only hitting one at a time...

The pulley problem I had was a chirp sound, but the sound I hear in your video sounds like a bearing that has gone past that point, or a deeper sound, like when an alternator bearing is going bad...

I use a stethoscope (harbor freight) to listen to mine to find the noisy one (no loose close while doing this)...

I also have used really long rods, even better, a brake line too, just hold one end on nut and the other to your ear (keep all body parts away from moving things in engine compartment)...

If you have never used this method to find noises in you vehicle, you will be amazed how clear and decisive the method is ! ! !...

Jay, bandi gave you some good tips to follow like spraying water on the belt. The only thing I could add is using a 3' piece of heater hose as a cheap stethoscope. To me the stethoscope shown is too sensitive for my ears because when ever I used it I would hear all sorts of noises...lol! Let us know what you find out.

When mine went it sounded like the truck was "groaning" when I first start it up. After a while it would seem to either go away or I just got used to it. It kinda reminded me of the sound of very low gears winding out, or the sound of a bike chain that is way too tight. As time went by, the sound never really changed it just got louder.

There was never any visible wiggle of the pulley when the engine was running, but once I took it off, I could feel it right away.

Just my $.02 worth, anyway.
