For those of you that have done Imogene before. In your opinion how easy or difficult is this trail.

I (Jackie) may be driving this and I have only started driving trails. Tony may not make it to the Summit until Thurs.

I need your opinion. I know that M will be leading us, so I will be in good hands. :bigthumb:

Thanks!!!

Was pretty easy of us on our newbie trip last year. If you are on your own then at least your spouse won't be looking out the passenger window hollering "get away from the edge".:jester:

When my youngest son first got his drivers license, I let him drive up Imogene. He was a bit scared but made it just fine. It’s mainly rocky towards the top but all in all not a bad road.

You could probably do it in a station wagon if you knew what you were doing.

Jim

If I remember correctly, last year when I was up there, there was a honda sedan up there.

From what I have seen of the photos, never having been there myself (about to be remedied) is they are graded roads that are steep but are traversed by passenger cars all the time.

Ouray is there for the view more than for "difficult" from what I've seen. And there will be a lot of people there to help if you find yourself in a situation where you're uncomfortable.

Thanks for all the responses. I know that I will be able to do this if hubby doesn't make it.

My favorite trail up there. I run it at least twice a year. Very scenic, and easy on the rig. Towards the top it gets a bit narrow, one lane stuff. There are places to pull out and let oncoming vehicles by. A couple of water crossings, shallow, or take the bridge over, your choice. Old mines to stop and look at.

On a side note... it is in my will that my ashes as well as the ashes of the finest dog ever (my Avatar) are to end up near the waterfalls up at timberline. That's how much I like Imogene.

See ya in a few weeks!

On the Telluride side the trail gets a little narrow in spots, with some fairly big dropoffs, so you need to be comfortable with heights/shelf roads. Biggest problem is keeping your eyes on the road instead of the incredible scenery. :)

I did it with stock tires and had zero issues. There are many different lines to take, from easy to hard, just choose what you feel good about. If the truck in front of you picks a line you are not comfortable doing, take an easier line and all will be well!:) Tim

Hi Jackie.
I know you're already settled on this one, but I figured I'd add comments.
JammerGirl drove this one in our stock 2003 ChvBlzr back in 2003 (or was it 04?).

It's pretty much just a bumpy gravel road for the most part.

The only problem a non-SUV car type of vehicle would have is a section or two of sharp-ish rocks (i.e. thin-tread street tires).

I've never been over Black Bear yet, but we're doing that one this year too and I can't imagine it will be much of a challenge for Sandi.

Like I said in another thread recently, compared to what we do out on the trails on the weekends together, the Summit trails will be a breeze (unless of course, you're prone to sudden and fast sharp turns on narrow roads). :)

There are only 2 real obstacles in the Ouray area....both are on Poughkeepsie Gulch. Imogene is cake. You should be fine.

Sean

PS. if someone knows of any more obstacles....please post up!!! :)

Thank you all. As ocr14a knows I drove my first trail with them on Mother's Day, and did pretty well. ;)
