Is an STOCK FJ Cruiser useless?

The more I read this forum, the more disappointed I get at my FJ. Maybe I should have bought something else more capable out of the box instead of buying a frame to build up. The impression I get is that my Stock FJ is no better than a Honda Civic. Wherever I can go with my Stock FJ the Honda Civic can go and for half the expense, where the Honda cannot go, I cannot either because I don't have the "Mods". I see the Land Rovers on the "Camel Trophy" with no lift and stock tires make it through the worst parts of the planet. Is that what I should have bought instead? If we don't modify our FJ we are referred to in this forum as the ones that only can drive to the mall.
Please prove me wrong.:boohoo:

Damn dude.....do you need a WAAAAmbulance? :mecry:

Sean
Does your honda civic have 4LO???
Does your honda civic have a locker and a-trac (or similar) for the front axle???
What is the ground clearance of your civic???

The FJ is very capable stock. If i could only change out one thing, i would go to more aggressive tires.

And who do you think is driving those camel rovers?? Normal everyday joes? Or people that have been driving offroad for years and years?
I'd say getting through most stuff is about 75% driver and 25% vehicle.
Absolutely NOT!
My Question to you is Have you tried wheelin it yet? If you have, you would have found, like me, that it is very capable. The only mods I have at present are 16"TRD wheels and MT Baja tires and it will get me just about anywhere I want to, within reason.

My FJ is stock, don't you dare call it a civic. You should cut your tongue out for that blasphemy! The FJ is one of the most capable off road vehicles out there stock, plain and simple. If you don't like it, sell it!
Stock...

Oh look! another stock FJ!!

...following another stock FJ

Oh yea!! did i mention i gotta STOCK FJ??

...and this is what the STOCK FJ thinks bout your civic....

I just now after nearly 2 years got some nitto terra's on my rig. Up till now i have wheeled in mud, sand, and rocky terrain in.....a completly stock fj. I have never been dissapointed.

Yes, if you use this place as your basis for reality you'll end up pretty screwed up!!

Fact is, the vast majority of folks over-mod their rigs for two reasons: a) sense of security (well what if THAT breaks somehow?) and b) heavily modified rigs are cool. Just my opinion! (And please, let's not hijack the thread arguing about that)

Stock FJ's are ridiculously capable vehicles.

A little evidence for ya...

100% stock...

No lift, no skids, stock-sized tires....

....Could have not said it better myself....

I think you need to sell your FJ and go buy your little Honda....
My STOCK 4X2 FJ Cruiser made the whole trip along the Mojave Trail with all the "Big Brother" 4X4 rigs. So, you wanna tell me that my "little 4X2 FJ" is not capable? :D

Yes, they are VERY capable rigs right out of the box. But, they are also a great starting point for a very specialized off-road monster, too.
great pics guys the stock FJ is very cpapable
....
Please prove me wrong.:boohoo:

These are pics of me and Delray in Moab....myself only having rock rails and Delray having skid plates we were stock. I hope this shows you what you can do in your rig.

Maybe the OP was saying he didn't get the rear locker and atrac? I dunno....both of those items would make a big difference in how capable a stock 4x4 FJC could go.....

Thanks Guys, specially for the great Pictures. there is no way I would drive a Honda Civic. I was being sarcastic because all we normally see and read in this forum is about mods.
I believe in my Stock FJ with some good tires.
Thanks again for the pics and the reassurance.

Get away from your computer and go prove it to yourself!
I think that everyone should wheel their FJ without mod's to get a feel of it. I wheeled my for over 4 months before even looking for a lift. If you rush into modding by looking at other FJ's on the board, you might be getting something you really don't need or like in the long run.

Wheel it like it is!

Here are a few stock FJ's wheeling, if you need some encouragement.

C. Men (often) like to over compensate?

Just teasing just teasing.....I love all the mods. :pinklove:

So, does your stock FJC have Atrac and a rear locker?

Just curious.

:mecry:That is part of the problem. I'm Central Illinois. The only place to go is the Cliffs, and it has been raining too much. So it is too muddy.
