I found an odd plug when I had the bumper off and seems like it could be for the tow harness. any opinions?

Looks to me like all you need is the tow harness to plug into that socket.
I bet you could make your own easy.
I was shocked to see that I have 90% of the needed wires for the rear sub (I don't have). I guess it saves a bit of money to just go and wire all of the stuff in, and install the options as needed.

Make sure you get all that you need you need several things besides the pigtail to plug in the back, there is a relay and some other thing that mounts inside under the firewall there is a plug that is already there that plugs into this little box. Easy to do took me 20 minutes and is factory.

This is the part # u need......0892135870. The best price I could find was $75.60 plus shipping here: https://www.1sttoyotaparts.com/partscat.html

Post # 22 in this thread shows the installation details: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/stereo-electronics/4249-wiring-trailer-hitch.html

The above part # has everything you need. Minus the trailer hitch of course.
