Locking glove box......please?

Toyota,

Please make either the glove box or the drivers side storage box lockable. It would be nice to have one of these to keep my wallet locked up while in the wild, as well as lock up my GPS, camera and what not while in civilization. I was actually shocked the first time I loaded up to hit the road and went to lock the glove box and couldn't find the key hole.

Thanks!

No offence but its called door locks! If you reach inside my rig with the doors open the alarm goes off as well. If you depend on either the glove box or gps tray to safeguard your stuff, you might get a little dissapointed locks or none!JMO
This is just my opinion, but I hate locking plastic glove boxes. They will not secure you items and you will end up with damage to the glove box and dash. If they make it into your truck they will not stop at a locked glove box. I would rather just be out whatever I left in there, which I rarely do.

If you really want to keep valuables in your truck, buy a small lock box and mount it under the seat or rear cargo area or something like that.

Don't you lock your vehicle in these situations?

Assuming of course that you must - being security minded, what makes you think that once a thief has managed his way into your steel vehicle, that a lock on a plastic box will stop his entry further in the depths of your vehicle?

i have to agree with you , especially after being broken into because i had no where to lock up a purse of my wifes. it seems like they sure could make better use of the voids in the rear to incorporate a sturdy locking compartment.
Over all most crooks are lazy. If they can throw a rock through a window and grab some stuff they will. If they have to put effort into getting a locked box open, they will move onto a new target. A locking glove box has saved me some stuff in previous vehicle break ins. So yes I do lock my ride, but it is only a window break away from being unlock. Since this is a ask Toyota section I see no point in posting how I have modified my truck to suit my needs. The best thing about the lock on the glove box is I could used it as I like and if you don't want to you don't have to.

im with you, I would really like to see the FJ have a lockable glove box
Our FJ came loaded w/ an uber cool stereo system (we are the second owners) that is worth TONS more money than I ever carry in my purse.

But I would still prefer a locking glove box to help deter the smash and grab thieves.

We have stereo equipment (crossovers) under our seats, so the lock box , under the seat, for more security is out.

Been looking at the Tuffy consoles.....but none really appeal to us yet.....and some (all?) require losing the passenger side arm rest.
I've gotta stop looking through this section, I just keep seeing more stuff I didn't realize was missing...
a lock on a plastic box is not going to stop the person that just broke in to your door.:mecry:

Exactly, and if I were a thief, it would cause me to investigate what is worth locking up............

Yes but with the beast in my avatar who can hear crickets :fart: within a 1/2 mile range of the house and warns us.......you would only have time to smash and grab.

Then again.....I probably shouldn't be leaving anything "good" in the glove box in the first place. :thinkerg:

TOTALLY AGREE! if somebody wants your stuff it won't matter if it is locked or not. If it is locked they will do more damage getting into it then if it were left unlocked. A good alarm is only good if you can get to your rig quickly. Most people don't even bother to look around when a car alarm goes off because no one cares. It's like blowing your horn when someone cuts you off.....they just don't care......OK off to therapy I go:clap:

Just to clear up any confusion: You lose the factory armrest attached to the seat when installing the Tuffy console but the console itself has a padded armrest, so technically the passenger is not losing an armrest. They are gaining the full length armrest (plus a secure place to lock things up).
I have had a few cars broken into and my stuff stolen. The LOCKED glove box stayed UNTOUCHED in both instances. Crooks are a lazy group that if they can't get it quickly, they most likely will not bother.

Yes I know some would go for it, but lets face it. It is easier to knock out a window and grab some goods out of the open console and run that it is to spend a good 5 -10 minutes getting a locked glove box open.

Have any of you messed around under a dash? The plastic used is sharp and can draw blood. I say let them try and get in and let them lose some blood in the process.

This is an ask Toyota for what I want section. Not a section for you to tell me how to do it better. I know how to make due, but I notice more and more places that it seems to have got over looked on this ride and it kinda drives me nuts.
