Wes, what's the name of the adhesive you're using, and where can you pick it up? I need to start brainstorming about how to mount it. I'm limited on powertools.

I'm thinking about starting this bad boy this weekend... I'm sure the girlfriend will love that :p, haha
I don't remember what it is called. I've had it for years and most of the print has rubbed off the tubes. Sorry. There are a lot of things out there that will work. I used to have this stuff that most auto parts stores have on their counters. It would work too.

I finished up the mount for the SG and installed my backup camera. I guess crunching my right rear wing got me motivated. Here are the installed t-nuts so I could pull the map light assy. up tight to the headliner.

I bought some JB Weld to bond the t-nuts with. I wanted to see if something available at most auto parts stores would work, and it did. I bonded one of them slightly out of position and it took quite a bit of pressure to pull it off.

Next up is the backup camera. I wanted a clean install so I cut off the power jack for the monitor and drilled a hole in the back cover for the wire and soldered the power wire right to the board. No wire and jack sticking out the left side of the monitor for me! I filed a notch in the rearview mirror mount (passenger side) so I could route the power wire out the side of the mirror, and keep it out of sight.

I formed up a small piece of aluminum to mount the monitor. It is sandwiched between the mirror mount and the headliner.

Under the left side A pillar is a plug with 5 wires in it. The top right wire is powered only when the ignition switch is on. I soldered the monitors red wire to this terminal. I crimped a ring terminal on the gound wire and put it on one of the bolts that holds the grab handle bracket to the A pillar.

I mounted the camera to the trim piece above the tow hitch and wired it into the left backup light. The view on the monitor is quite good from this location.

This mod is a must do, but cutting the headliner scares the crap out of me. I know I'd screw it up.
Nah, cutting the headliner was one of the easiest parts. You just have to make an accurate template, tape in place, mark the cut line, and cut with a utility knife.

OK, I finally got took some pics of the back of the console for those of you who asked for them.

This shows the wires soldered to the pins where the Honda wiring was attached.

If anyone still has questions about this mod, I'll be happy to help.
I have a question about this. How did you wire this? I purchased one of this consoles (only it was from an acura.. in the pictures it LOOKS exactly the same...) and I'm having trouble imagining getting my soldering iron down in there for 3 connections. Are the pins you're connecting to a fair ways down below the top of the plastic? None of that wire shown came with the console, did it?

I don't care about mounting my scanguage there. But I'd to have this console. I got one with homelink for my garage door.

Thanks!

I used a thin tip soldering iron and didn't have a problem soldering in the hole.

you could use one of this, and then 'plug' it in?

I was looking at the console with the Homelink system. With the Scanguage installed, the Homelink antennae would technically be facing backward. Would this setup still work? or can the antenna be redirected?

Just wondering.

I doubt it matters. It's just your standard garage door opener. I can use my regular one half way down the street in my FJ.

Oh, I wonder if I can melt a drop of solder onto the terminal post first, and then stick the wire in there and melt the solder already in place.

If not doing it this way, does it take 3 hands?
BINGO! That is exactly how you should do it. Now go get em.

Ah ha! I got 'em soldered. I didn't have any real luck dropping solder onto the post first, though. It was much easier to get a nice coat of solder on the wire. Then hold it in place, a quick hit with the iron, and done. How easy.

Now. Who knows which wires do what? I want to test it before I start cutting into the FJ wiring. It seems like the middle is ground?
