The interior light, while useful in illuminating the interior of the FJ in a general sense is not useful as a map light or for illuminating objects in the forward part of the cabin at night.
A dedicated map light with higher intensity light should be placed behind the rear-view mirror. I can't count the times when I wanted that light and had to search for a hand flashlight to use to illuminate maps or other items that required scrutiny. I've had passenger cars by Toyota where these features were standard. I don't know why they weren't included in the FJ Cruiser.
Some forum members have come up with workable solutions and have crafted useful lights that are sold here on the forum, however it should be/have been an OEM solution.
