Medano Pass is expected to be closed through Monday July 8.
Thunderstorms are possible this weekend that could cause more slides/flows.

Yeah, if it's still closed on the 14th, I'll probably just head on over to Monarch Pass instead....

Where you in the Colorado convoy last year?
There was a yellow FJ next to mine in the group photo at the lake.
Was that you?

Chow!
Harry
I was in that convoy. Pretty drive. Not in the pic though.

If it's still closed on the 15th we'll leave Walsenburg on US-160, Hwy-150, Zapata Falls, Sand Dunes, Del Norte, Creede, Lake City.

UPDATE 07/10/13 10:30 AM MT

Medanao Pass is still closed!

Crews left the Sand Dunes this morning to go around to the
east side to see what they can do as far as clearing the debris.

No estimation of when the Pass will re-open.

Current Conditions of the Road

updated July 10, 2013 PM

Flash Flood Damage Closes Central Section of Medano Road

Wet ash/debris flows over 3 feet (1m) tall have covered the road in sections of Medano Canyon, making it unsafe and impassible. Park staff will continue working with heavy equipment over the next few days to clear and reopen the road. The road is closed between Castle Creek Picnic Area (3 miles from the western entrance of the road) and Campsite 3.2 (3 miles west of Medano Pass). Seven campsites in the upper portion of the road are open. The Medano Lake Trailhead is currently only accessible via Highway 69 in the Wet Mountain Valley. The road closure applies to both vehicle and foot traffic.
