The issue is two-fold...

1) The CO problem as has been pointed out

2) Heat build-up under the rear cargo area (no, this may not be a problem when going 80mph down the freeway; but you'd be surprised at the heat that can be generated and trapped under there at moderate speeds; stand at an extended red light on a hot summer day and the temp will rise to hundreds of degrees down there)

Look how the heat melted the bumper... Do you want that heat source under your cargo bay?

IMNSHO, you are asking for Murphy to visit you, IYKWIM....

looks good james, i do think i would re cut the pipe where the first weld is, then extend the piece of pipe along the inside of the frame , leaving enough room to add the turn down, just before the bumper and leaving a fingers distance, look at skinums tailpipe mod and you will see what i am saying. otherwise, i had to cut 2 inches off mine and cut it at an angle leaving it just below the bumper with a good turn down angle.. good work ..

The damage is more of a cut than a melt. It is from a rock jamming the tailpipe into the bumper. Probably lasted a few seconds. After I got home I did cut it at an angle but the factory pipe is still way too low. I'll probably extend it a bit, I guess, to more like the allpro one and the ones posted. I have a reese hitch, so I'll have to change their design. Later this summer when I build a bumper I think I will go straight back through the bumper, should be well protected then. Still....no fumes, and no heat build up that I noticed after sitting in a parking lot for 20 minutes inching along.

It is a very easy and genius fix to your problem, however I have to agree with some of the members about the danger of fumes in cabin those mouse flaps are just above the tip. Have you try using flexible stainless steel exhaust connections? Those are flexible enough to bend to the side like TRD.

My fix cost a little more, but was a lot quicker... But it will not last as long... :)

And yes, I melted my bumper also.

The exhaust really is strong and fast out of the exhaust pipe even when sitting still. The end of my tailpipe was a good foot or so from the rear bumper and it still melted teh bumper, so i turned down one edge to divert the flow a little.

My fix was free...and about 60 seconds with a sawz'all.. the angle still aims the exaust out to the side behind the rear wheel. This was with the TRD exaust, so I don't know if the stock comes down at the same angle behind the axle.. been quite awhile now, and no fumes and no heat problems.

I wish I could have done that but my exhaust pipe bent (almost closed) where I cut it, way back almost over the rear axle.
