Going to PA next month for a couple days to an off road park. I'm too scared to try roof top tents and I like the idea of sleeping in the rig, especially since we have a sun roof (I'm going to build removable screen frames to cover all windows during the night.) I was sure I would mess it up in some way because that's just how I roll :)

Here are some pictures of the steps I took today:

I too my measurements, did the math, made my plans and cut.
I couldn't find the electric sander so I hand sanded each piece until they were baby butt smooth. It took hours!!
I spray painted one piece just to see how it would look.
Screwed the "legs on" and made sure it fit well.
Got the hinges on both the main deck and foldable flap.

Next steps:

Grind down the hinge screws.
Screw in a 2x4 to the edge of the flap to give it more stability on the seat back.
Lots of spray painting!!!
Add the futon mattress and enjoy!

(Sorry about the orientation of the pictures, I tried to rotate them but they kept ending up like this >.<)

Looking at the pics :ideal situation: having a rear 2 part split door ,extend the floor from the ground up to level out with the FJ s floor making a roof extension (either way hardtop ,has to fit into cargo area or roof rack,or a soft top that clips or slides on top of the split doors) That would be a great camper idea??
