I'll start by saying I prefer VHF/UHF. I even like HF. The problem with these? Nobody talks to you! Time to install a CB on the CHEAP!

First up - shopping:
1) CB: Uniden PRO510XL - $36.30 (amazon)
2) 18' Coax - $7.87 (amazon)
3) Firestick 4 ft antenna - $15.95 (amazon)

$60 (give or take)

That's all!

The rest is made or scrounged.

First up threading the coax:
Had to take the center console, rear seat, and rear plastic trim. Using a coat hanger and some electrical tape I was able to thread the antenna to the back.

After putting all the irrelevant stuff back I put the supplied bracket in place for both the radio and mic.

Too dark to connect power now. Will continue tomorrow....

Finally got to finish the mount.

I connected the power to the fuse box. I took a small piece of metal (pop can) and cut and bent it to the shape of a tab. Soldered it to the power line (which thankfully already has a fuse), shrink wrapped it and plugged it in.

In the rear I pushed the cable through a small hole in the rubber cable sheath and routed it to the "bandi" mount.

The so called "bandi" mount is nothing more than a slightly bent 1/4" piece of aluminium with a 90 degree bracket on the end. (The spring I managed to scrounge from a friend)

To connect the antenna I turned a piece of aluminium into a "bolt", drilled through it and tapped for a 3/8"-24 thread. I also turned 2 CPVC shoulder washers for insulation. The antenna cable is terminated in ring terminals and bolted to the antenna base and flange.

This radio stuff is fun! Now to save up for a decent VHF rig. Thinking I'll go with either a Yaesu 2800 or an Anytone dual-bander. Time and money will tell :)
