I went today and looked at my 3rd FJ, and I've decided to pass for now. I've driven both the MT and the AT. Part of it is the overall styling, a little too much "look at me" factor, plus I'm starting to wane on the design. I'm a little concerned that in 3-4 years, its going to look very dated.

Pricing was also a big factor for me, everything coming in for the next 2-3 months seems to be fully loaded, and coming in around 32k. For 5k more, I can be in a Sequoia, with leather, sunroof, and usable seating for 8. For what I need the vehicle for (driving on the beaches of the Outer Banks, and taking the logging road to the cabin in WV), the Sequoia is just as capable, and a heck of a lot more comfortable.

Ive got the Def. 110 if I want to go play in the rough stuff, so for now, I'm going to pass, let the demand slow down, and revist the whole FJ thing in the Fall.

It's interesting to experience how different we all are in regards to 'pulling the trigger' on what (for many of us) is a fairly large investment. I was lucky to ride in one the day they first showed up in town and my wife (who I could not picture in this vehicle for a second) was all for borrowing the money/signing the papers right away after only sitting in one a few hours earlier.

Again, it's great to have this forum and experience so many ways of looking at what has (for us) became a kind of life-changing 'out of the blue' driving decision.

well said. I can't think of too many cars/trucks in the last ten years that have had this sort of unique appeal........even if I try to think outside the box in terms of cars I would not be interested in....

A good dealer can and will find one preferenced how you want. I am dead set on getting one with no port options. I will add what I want, when I want and save $$ in the process. With no port options, CQ and UP1 only will put you right about $28K.

I've been seeing hundreds of FJ's for a couple of months now, I too went back and forth from "these look cool" to "getting kind of tired of looking at them". In the end, I'm getting one. Hopefully your waiting will pay off.

This is the exact same boat that I am in, and using the SE/TRD/Moab/Sema Green excuse as to why I am not buying right now. I do not NEED a car until November (when my 2nd kid is due and my regular cab pickup will no longer work). And then I tell myself that I visit this forum ONLY to keep up with the latest accessories. Wow, this is tough :D

That IS the FJ's appeal. That it has retro styling cues. All the old school Cruisers ARE old and yet that is part of there appeal, the dated look. I suspect that the look of the FJC will not be dated for a long time. These vehicles will always have the offroad look, image (especially lifted with big tires), and appeal shared by the Jeeps and Hummers.

As previously mentioned, you can get one now without the extra options for $28K. If you skip on the ATRAC, your price will drop even further. You just have to order it and wait another 4-6wks. This is only if you gotta have one. It is BEST to wait if you can. People will be selling these after the depreciation in a few months. It's already starting.

If you want a smaller vehicle than the Sequoia, the 4Runner comes loaded with leather and a V-8 for $34k? Sounds like you know what you're doing and you'll be fine either way.

I too was playing the waiting game, until I couldn't take it anymore. I had to have it now. So I went out and got one. I'm taking a little bit of a beating on the sale of my Truck, but I am OK with it. Am I glad I took the plunge? HELL YEAH! I LUV IT! Old dawg, quick screwing around and get one. Life is too short! Enjoy while you can...

I too am in the same situation. I have a pre-ordered black 6 MT that is supposed to be here any day now. My only problem is that I still have to sell one of my other vehicles before taking it. I absolutely refuse to take a $5000 hit and trade in one of my cars. To make things worse, I am now 100% convinced on getting an FJ after driving my brothers 2 week old FJ. I have already told myself that I will have to pass it up if I don't sell on of my cars. I will be very hard passing up a black MT with CQ and a MSRP of $27.8 but I think I will have to. I absolutely love this truck though, I am one to charge vehicles often but if I get an FJ I plan on keeping it long term.

Was there really a preproduction FJ in the Sema Green? I remember the picture of the light green FJ being posted on the forum, but I thought someone determined the vehicle was really a silver FJ photographed with background lighting that gave it a green hue. Anyway Oldawg I'm with you on holding out for now, and my green preference would be like the old Forest Green.

A couple other things are a sunroof to lighten up the interior and 4x4 AT with base options of CQ and DL (rear diff lock) to complete my desireable configuration. Oh yeah, I want ATRAC to work, so Toyota can offer it separately (like DL is) or someone figures whether the switch install is all that is needed to make it functional. Heck and Toyota better hurry up because I want to free scale model too.

HUMM,Seems the old 60's and 70's Crushers never changed and you could never find one of those or get any price off sticker, The Toyota Prius is still MSRP and every time gas goes over $285 per gallon you wait 4 months to order one.I wouldn't hold your breath on an over supply on the FJ's.Just too many Hard Core Toyota Off Roaders hanging around!!

If you have a 110, why the hell do you need an FJ?
My brother has 110 and I love it.

Cruiserdude..
You've never spent 9 hours in one on 95 heading to the Outer Banks.

The dealer called today, there is one that sorta meets my needs (Silver versus Blue) incoming in about 2-3 weeks. I'll look at that, and make my decision then.

I wanted an early FJ when I started driving---my old man wouldn't let me cause it was "Jap crap" in his mind, being an "old school" guy and likely I didn't have the money then anyhow. I don't "need" a new FJ but want one- and am getting one. You are never too old to have a happy childhood.
It will be vehicle #4. I realize they may come out with bigger this, better that on subsequent models. I learned to buy what I like when I want and not think/ wait it to death- for example I'm glad I got the '04 Cobra SVT and like that body style- it has been changed, I like the new one but not as much.
My wifes '05 WRX STI has been changed to less desirable body look in my mind on the '06- smaller hood scoop, wierd looking grille, some gay fin over the rear window and a smaller rear spoiler/fin.
So I'm glad I got what I got and don't look back. You may hate the next years model and wish you got the previous. It cracks me up to see some folks compare this FJ to something with leather, heated cupholders and the like- Its totally a niche rig and I'm fine if everyone doesn't buy one---all the better I'd think.
I bet you don't see many available used for a LONG time.

Sorry the dealer could not find finaceing for you.
Now, I guess it will look just as dated as the PT cruiser that I notice sales have tanked on, nope no more of those selling
or the Mustang
Yes this retro look is just tanking sales all over the industry
so go out and get the Sequoia, opps, no you can't, you need to revisit the FJ thing in the fall, after you save up that downpament you do not have. otherwise why don't you go get the sequoia?
sour grapes
