OK, so I ordered a set of All-Pro sliders based on this thread. I went for the DOM / Apex model, and I guess I didn't look at the pics closely enough. I was expecting the regular dimpled top-plates, but each one has this cutout at the rear end:

I hate this crap! I don't want various manufacturer's logos screaming out from various points all over my truck - this is not NASCAR. I had the Toyota dealer leave off their decal for the same reason. And while there was many reasons I went with the Warrior Products front bumper, the lack of any logos or cutouts was definitely a point in their favor.

So, what to do now? My first thought was to fill in the cutout with my MIG welder and grind it smooth before painting, but those gaps around the "A" are pretty large. Although if I rested it on a smooth non-flammable surface, I could just keep pooling the wire until it was full. Another option would be to tack-weld a thin plate underneath, then fill the logo with Bondo.

Ideas? Opinions?

I would cut out the logo and maybe use some criss cross wire to cover the hole from underneath-

A copper backing plate would allow you to weld without sticking.

Looks like the dimpled one was the DOM/HREW model and you ordered the DOM/APex model.
Hang them and go hit some trails

Leave them as is, paint, then lay some grip tape over the top.

If you hate it enough to go through the trouble to fill it in, you should try contacting the manufacturer first. See if they can work something out with you.

Clamp a plate of 1/4" or 3/8" aluminum behind it and fill it up with the mig. Unclamp and see the nice flat surface on the rear, grind the surface on the top flush! Presto!!

I briefly considered that, but at 106 lbs, they are hard enough to move around my garage. let alone think about shipping them again.

I think I will try the MIG welder and see how it goes.

That is a cool logo but its not cool if you ordered no logo and got the logo anyway. If you feel it was APs mistake, I'd try to ship them back on their dime.

That should buff right out.

Can you use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to cut through the welds. Then you can remove the plate entirely. Then use it to make a new plate to weld on.

Wilkie
That would be the best solution...but if you wanted the dimpled plate inserts maybe you can explain your situation to AP and give you a discount. The dimpled plates is what I like most about the sliders.

Sorry to hear of the situation. I sort of like the cut-out, and I think you wouldn't really notice it as much when it is painted black and it angles up toward the rig anyway, so no one who isn't standing right next to your rig would notice it. But, if it bothers you, I guess that is what counts. Why don't you just see if AP would be willing to send you a dimple plate to replace it? Then, you can just cut the welds, remove the plate, and re-weld the dimple plate on. At the very least, they'd probably sell you a plate for each slider fairly cheap and shipping would be way less. Just a thought.
