I’ve been in the market for an FJ for a long time now. I’ve found two that I really like but both are pretty different. I’ve arranged both deals for the end of this week but can’t keep the sellers waiting any longer.

One is a 2010 automatic (55,000 miles) army green color, Old man Emu lifted, ARB bumpers, snorkel, 34inch tires and minimal under carriage rust. For sale for 23k.

The second is a 2008 MT (81,000 miles) Black, SUPERCHARGED with other slight engine mods, stock suspension and minimal hail damage (replace the hood and should look fine). No rust. For sale for 20k

I can’t decide between the two. Hoping for an overwhelming support one way or the other to help decide.

Also forgot to mention both have Rear Lockers and ATRAC.

I would go with the auto, just depends if you're looking to do some serious offroading or take it easy though. For the price if you want to lift it, add bumpers, tires, etc you may be wise to go with the 2010 that already has that stuff.
I would do some decent off-roading. Right now I have a lifted ‘96 Tacoma that does pretty well. I would lift the 2008 for sure. They probably have the same amount of money in mods, just one is for Off road and one is for interior, speakers, and Supercharger.

That supercharger was legit when I test drove it but the other one is decked out with off road goodies.

I don’t have good pics of the supercharged FJ, but some decent pics of the lifted one. I’ll post now. To be able to customize the unlifted one is nice, but also not putting all the work and install is nice too lol. #StillUndecided

Yeah that does look good! I thought about the flat black hood then flat black on the roof as well. I guess my biggest choice just needs to be ; do I want a manual supercharged, or an automatic lifted with Armor and bumpers. I’m stuck on that...

Boiling it down to items that can't easily be fixed with money are:
1. Model year and mileage
2. Manual Full-time 4WD vs Automatic Part-time 4WD
- 3. Possibly horse power; a stock 2010 has more than a stock 2008. I don't know how much the SC adds, but I'm sure there's at least one thread here that'll break that out. (and there's nothing wrong with choosing '8 just because the SC appeals to you regardless of final HP; it may be very cool)

Lifts, bumpers, tires, and wheels can be done or re-done for an expenditure of some amount of money. I'd make the call on which transmission and 4WD system you think will work best for you.

I'd say the MT '08 with S/C all day long (because that is exactly what I have!).

The TRD S/C is an awesome kit, it cost $6000. Compare that to some bumpers and wheels/tires and the odds are that's worth more than they would be.

If the 2010 has good service records, with its low mileage and what appears to be great aftermarket products ....... hands down, the 2010. :)

Yeah the S/C’s are pricey. The ‘08 also has the URD 7th injector, 2.55 pulley, TRD cold air intake, URD lower temp Thermostat, and URD tuning. I’m sure those mods added to the price.

How many miles are on your FJ and when did you put the supercharger on it? One thing that was making me lean a little toward the 2010 was that I wasn’t sure how the S/C would affect engine reliability. I want at least 250-300k miles out of my FJ

They both have good service records lol. Both one owner, both seem to be well maintained. The 2010 has seen quite a bit of Off-Road use (as it should), and the ‘08 has probably been driven a little hard on occasion with that S/C. No red flags though for either. I feel like the 2010 is the smarter choice money wise because I would lift and add all off-road goodies to the ‘08. I’ve just driven manual my whole life and it’s hard to make the switch to automatic. I think there lies my dilemma lol if both were AT I would choose the 2010 hands down.

Your right I think my dilemma is more so on the Transmission I want. I’ve always had manual vehicles and love it. I think I’m leaning more towards the 2010 but the AT transmission is throwing me off. And I think there is a 30-40 horsepower difference in the two engines in stock formation. So that would be nice for the 2010 to have more power to push around all that weight of gear and what not, but that supercharger more than over compensated for that power difference.

Any real advantages to the Automatic transmission?

2010 will have a stronger rear axle 8.2 vs 8 will also have stronger steering parts . if you plan on taking it off road Not just gravel roads to a KOA campsite then the Auto will be much easier to control . SC plus 8 inch rear = boom

That’s good to know! I didn’t know there was a difference in the rear differentials and steering components. I’m gonna check into that now. And I plan on using every bit of off-road potential that the FJ has so if that the case we might have a winner!
