Toyota Launches Ironman Versions of the Tundra, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser (The Torque Report)

The special Ivan “Ironman” Stewart versions of the three vehicles will be available at dealers later this year. Dealers will be set up to convert the Tundra, Tacoma and FJ Cruiserhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_FJ_Cruiser in their service centers with kits supplied by Halo Special Edition Vehicles, of Irvine California.

The Ironman version of the Tundra gets a boost in power from 381 hp to a whopping 504 hp from its 5.7L V8. The Tacoma and FJ Cruiser Ironman versions also get a bump in power from 239 hp to 304 hp from the 4.0L V6. The packages start between $8,000 and $10,000 and a top of the line version will add about $20,000 to the sticker price.

“I have total control over this,” Stewart said. “I didn’t want lift kits or monster tires. I wanted to keep it classy.”

It may seem a little odd that Toyota is launching these vehicles during this time, but I guess the automaker needs to do something to spark some interest in the declining truck and SUV market.

Should be interesting to see how this new version pans out.

I definitely like the idea of more power.

Wow - up to $20,000 to the sticker price. These must be some really tricked out packages. Will be interesting to see if they have a custom color scheme as well like the past two years of special editions.

I still think a "Boogermobile-esque" OD Green and black color scheme would sell like mad.

Howls,
FJ Wolf
That's a big price range in packages, $8-20K. I wonder what all is included in each? I'd definately take another 70 hp, but not for $20k

This project was probably started over a year ago, as they take time to ramp up and market. So, they were probably already committed to promoting the models and marketing the concept, and then fuel costs skyrocketed.

I'd also be interested in the full specs; there's gotta be a lot of custom work done to justify the $20k increase, for sure...
Look forward to seeing the specs on the '09 Ironman FJ. :)
Sound pretty cool, can't to see what it looks like!:bandit:
They want to add 20k to the price but "he" wants to keep it "classy." No lift kits? Upgraded bumper, winch? Where are they going to put 20k into an FJ. Isn't he The Ironman. World champion in offroad. And he doesn't want to put eben a lift. I think it's dump IMO. I would rather have Air2Air do a build. He knows how to spend that kind of money.
Reads as though it is just a supercharger and a badge that they add for 8-10 grand, ridiculous.
It's not really a special edition...it's a bolt-on kit that the dealers will install at the customers request. No new colors, only upgrading vehicles that are already on the lot.

Might help move some of the extra FJ's on the lots due to gas prices.
It will be intresting to see what you get for 20k! I hope a turbo Deisel is part of the plan.
Why not a lift and Better tires? 35's will surely give you some added performance, I guess we shall see!
Since when is my 16" lift and 47" tires not classy?! ;)

I'll wait for the Roger Clements special edition, I hear its injected, beefed-up, ten years older but outperforms the new ones, and comes with a 19 year old. True colors have not come out yet. :)
Couldn't really Google successfully for Halo Special Edition Vehicles.

I think the best performance mod for the Ivan Stewart FJ is a diet - for the way some of us drive, and especially the Ivan Stewart desert guys. Now that would be a lot more than $20K but it's a good start.

It's been pointed out that the FJ is no anorexic. All the performance problems I have are because of a truck that's a little too heavy to slow and turn quickly enough for the speed. Demello told me to lose my winch because of how I use the FJ; I'm more likely to crash than get stuck. Or as I've done a couple times, just say the hell with it and go off the end of the turn and into the rough. This is better than trying to make the turn and ending up on the roof.

There is of course no way to remove meaningful weight on the FJ. Seats, plastic interior stuff - what we used to take out of our small cars - make hardly a dent.
Nice new avatar Todd!! Has Mike seen this yet? I definitely think you should request YMCA at the jam session!!

Not impressed! It's an aftermarket company that is adding some parts and paid the Ironman to put his name on it IMHO. I can't find anything on a company called Halo in Irvine, CA or the CEO of a company named Don DiCostanzo. If this company is really all that, why aren't they on the Internet with a website? In another article, it even states "Since the Ironman-edition trucks are not sold directly by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., dealers are being contacted by Halo representatives. Initial sign-up requires buying two pallets of parts each for the Tundra, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser, said Halo CEO Don DiCostanzo."

Wants to sell 500 in 2008 and ramp up to 5,000 to 10,000 in 2009?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

This is a shame because I like the Ironman and met him when I worked at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. at one of the many events for employees they put on throughout the year.

Now that, I believe, would sell 10,000 in 2009, with me buying one! :rocker:

Todd, Why do you keep putting it off? You know you're gonna do it, Hell, it's the only thing left you can do to your rig.... Loose the frame and sheet metal and go full tube and skin that beeyatch in fiberglass ... You'll prolly shed a few pounds there. :rocker:
It's a shame Ivan “Ironman” Stewart doesn't see the benefit of roll down suicide door windows, pop out rear windows, 24 gallon fuel tanks or any one of a number of other small changes that would actually make the FJ better. We already have the supercharger if we want it. All this does is give the stealerships another avenue to add 300% markup for their services.
