THE BELOW IMAGES ARE OF THE ROUGH PROTOTYPE
I MADE BACK IN JUNE, AND DOES NOT REPRESENT
THE FINAL PRODUCT IN QUALITY AND DIMENSION...

Bandi Mount Paint Recomendation

Mask off threaded portion of mount, and for CB Useage, Be
Sure to Mask of the Antenna ground area (See Step 3 below)...

I Used for Primer Coats:
Rustomium Auto Sandable Primer - 2 coats...

And then for Finish Coats:
Rustolium Professional Flat Black - 4 coats...

This will give you a thick Powdercoat "Like" finish...

Bandi Mount Instructions

ITEMS NEEDED:
Masking Tape (or equivalent)
Mid size Flat Head Screwdriver (or equivalent)
7/16" Open-End Wrench

NOTE:
If you intend to install a flag, you can skip steps 3 and 6.
Door position during installation should not be in the fully opened.
The approximate position as shown on Image 5 should be used.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Before installing the mount, cover the areas in red on Image 0
with masking tape to protect the FJC's paint during mount
installation. Be sure to fold it over the edges of the body and the
door for maximum protection.

2. First, you need to remove the center plastic hinge cover. This
cover is only snapped on over the hinge. It has two stubs sticking
out that slide into the mounting hole shown on Image 2. From
inside of the opened door, You need to spread the two halves of
the plastic cover and push it outwards.

3. For CB Antenna mounting (unless you get a Groundless RV/Marine
type antenna), there must be a ground contact for best TX/RX of
the CB. You will have to remove the paint on the underside of the
mount in the area of contact with the bottom section of the
antenna so that the two pieces make contact to complete the
ground. This area is shown in red on Image 1. This can easily be
achieved with a mid size flat head screwdriver, by scraping away
the paint from inside the red circle area.

4. Install and tighten your CB Antenna Base connector onto the
mount prior to the mount installation on the vehicle. If done at a
later time, you will need a deep socket to hold the underside of
your CB mount to be able to tighten the top part.

Image 1

5. Image 2 shows the location of the mounting hole that is
already on you FJC's Hinge. This will be where the mount bolt
will go through when you place the mount in position.

Image 2

6. As done in step 2, For CB Antenna mounting (unless you get a
Groundless RV/Marine type Antenna), there must be a ground
contact for best TX/RX of the CB. You will have to remove the
paint on the hinge where the stainless steel nut (included in your
package) makes contact with the hinge. This area is shown in red
on Image 4. This also can easily be achieved with a mid size flat
head screwdriver, by scraping away the paint from inside the red
circle area.

7. With the door in position as shown on Image 5, place the mount
through the space as shown on Image 3, and line up the bolt with
the hole in the hinge and slide it through so that the end of the
bolt is flush with the other of the hinge.

Image 3

8. Place the SS-Nut in the 7/16" open end wrench and slide it
over the hole between the door and the hinge. Now press the
mount from the back side and turn the nut to get it started.
Snug up the mount by tightening the SS-Nut, but leaving it
loose enough to adjust the mount to be centered on the hinge.

9. Close the door slowly making sure not to damage the mount
due to being out of alignment with the hinge at this point. Do
this by watching as you close the door for any contact between
the mount and the top and bottom hinge covers.

10. Eye-Up the mount from the side of the FJC and adjust it by
rotating a hair up or down so that the angle matches the top
and bottom hinge covers.

11. Tighten the SS-Nut so that the mount is stable and will not
rotate out of position. The bolt on the mount looks small, but it
is a grade 8 bolt and is plenty strong enough to hold the mount
in place, and the rough surface coating on the hinge works as a
grip to the mount once you tighten it down.

Congratulation !!! You just installed your All-Pro "Bandi Mount" !!!

Thank you and Enjoy...

Your cable will be install trough the door?
The cable will go to behind the door past the hinge, then I am going to run it down the weather stripe edge and under the truck to...(I have not decided where the CB will go yet)...

I am running the cable under the truck for ease of installation, rather than removing a bunch of molding/flooring to run it in the inside of the cab...

I think LC is right on. You could sell those!
Yes... But what would one pay for an item like this...??? Steel mount Only... no antenna parts, that is what radio shack is for... :D

If I have more time, I will make a few more and post up for those who may want one... ;)

It just takes a little time to beat that 1/4" steel into an arch, and to get that little notch in the right spot to match the hinge... than drill and weld in a SS bolt to attach it...

After looking for a nice place to install my old Boxy CB... I decided to get the Cobra 75 WXST hand unit...

The small RX can be placed, say under the center console, or up in the dash, anywhere ya like, the antenna and hand unit cables connects to it... The just mount the handle on the Dash... or just sit it in the center console or wherever... I don't need a real KickA$$ CB for the FJ, I just need it for trail rides...

Just figure out a reasonable cost for parts and labor. Would you paint to match as well? 'Cause that would be the best :D But yes, seriously, this answers my "where to mount the antenna" problem. I was just going to get a Gobi ladder and use a mirror mount but that would limit access on the ladder so this is a perfect option. It would even answer the dilemma of where to put a flag for dune running.

NICE WORK! It looks like that space was made for that. I'm gonna copy you when the time comes.

You can open the door all the way with that?

When I make a few more up, i will see than I guess, cause the prototype took 3 hours, but now I know exactly what I need...

I might have some school bus yellow laying around here somewhere, I'll match it up to my yellow FJ instead of the black...

To further help, I could make it a little wider for your flag mount, you would just need to get me the dims on the flag mount holes... Do the screw together like the CBantennas ??

It is mounted to the door part of the upper hinge (the one that sticks out far), so when you open it, it is way clear of everything...

I will get a picture that shows the door fully opened when I get home from work... but there is plenty of clearence...

I want one of those antenna mounts you put together.

Your radio selection is excellent, I had that same radio in my old Jeep Grand Cherokee, they work great on the trail! I had a quick release antenna, just don't put the spring on the antenna, it whips around too much on the trails and hits the body.

Little did you know where your next career would come from.... ;)

One built, 3 more interested customers, 45,996 potential sales remaining for the 2007 model year.

Way to go!!!!

Keep us posted.

Hey, on a serious note, you should talk to someone-I bet there's a fab guy here lurking that could mfr these things for you, powdercoat them black and/or paint them to match body colors like you're going to do, and you have a small little cash creator. Maybe we even have a patent attorney here. I think you did good wif dis.

I would want it in black to match the hinge, not yellow. It would look wierd in yellow.

Great idea though. If you didn't mind, I could probably get them produced if there's enough interest. I'd need one first to be able to look into it though.

Quoting myself, geeez!

See? I was right. Talk to LC - maybe he can produce them for you. Discount to FJForum guys. Get TRDSource to stock 'em - I bet Matt would do that and put them on his website so even non Forum guys can find, then get them.

But just be careful - we all know LostC won't make them - he's just using a very clever ploy to try & get a free one for himself....... I keed, I keed.

The flag I just got has a 1/2" bolt at the bottom. I think that is standard for these flags...

I would be very interested in one of these mounts in black, please add me to the list.

I will be adding an ARB bumper in the future, but I would like to run the antenna in the rear for awhile.

No FJC yet, waiting to see if it made the boat for last weekend or not.
