Is it possible to put a tent on the OEM rack with the drop in baja basket? If so any suggestions or issues I may come across?

I know the OEM rack is rated for about 175 lbs so it probly wont handle the weight of the tent and the occupants :)

I know the entire OEM rack is made from plastic and thin aluminum. I just don`t think I would trust it. Its a long way to the ground if it fails. I know a lot of people use the Baja Rack or a similar all metal racks :)

No.

The factory rack is good for the basic shovel, axe, Jack, and 100 or pounds of bags/gear.

This is fine for me.

There is kind of a split in the off road community with points like
casual rack to throw a bike, kayak, or extra luggage on,
basic tools and luggage,
and heavy duty gear carrying and tent use.

These points dictate how expensive a rack you will need.

I was doing some research on the forum and got this... was wondering if the baja rack helped with any support or if thule/yakima crossbars would help.

Yes, understood.

i have seen those posts while perusing stuff.

I will be more specific.

Can you easily mount a tent to the factory rack and is it intended for it? No.

Can you rig something up that will do and play around with mounts and crossbars and end up with a make do option that is suboptimal And it was not intended for? Yes.

There is also some fun to be had in rigging stuff up.

But if you are a roof temp sleeper, there are off the shelf, out of the box good options intended for it.
