Hey everyone, the event has been posted to the Facebook page. Details pasted above. Let me know if you have any questions. Do note the date has been moved from previous years.
Looks like this year’s beach run is at a later date.
Looks like this year’s beach run is at a later date.
Yep, there was a poll posted on the Facebook page, and that weekend won.
Some things to consider if this is your first time out on the dunes:
There will be lots of well equipped rigs and drivers with lots of recovery experience, so don't be afraid to show up lite on equipment and experience. Most if not all are happy to help anyone in need and anyone wanting to learn. Don't be afraid to ask what you think might be a stupid question. With that said however, follow at your own risk. We usually split the group and separate the crazy drivers (like me) from the newer/wanting to preserve their rig drivers.

Airing down your tires is a must if you don't want to be stuck every 10 minutes.
Ask for help if needed, most are happy to share their equipment and advice. Don't stress too much about buying a compressor if you don't have one. If needed you can keep it under 50MPH, take corners much slower on pavement, and air up at a gas station. I usually stay around 15 PSI all weekend, and air up on the last day (not recommended due to decreased handling and increased tire wear).

OHV permit is required. We are classified as a Class II ATV (4x4's, sand rails) - Detailed info can be found here.
You can purchase one online here, $10 for 2 years (In step two you can select Class 2, you will need your VIN#). "You will be emailed a receipt, to print or save on your phone, to show in the field, until your sticker arrives in the mail."

Fire extinguisher and flag are required.
Fire Extinguisher
. All vehicles, except motorcycles and multi-wheeled (quads) motorized vehicles, must be equipped with a functional dry chemical type fire extinguisher of at least two pounds capacity

Flag. All vehicles must display a highly visible red or orange flag when operating on the sand. The flag must:
  • Be displayed at a height of at least nine feet from the ground level when the vehicle is under power; and
  • Have one side that is at least eight inches wide, and be at least twelve inches long;

Sheriffs do patrol the dunes. Be aware that the speed limit on the beach is 25 MPH.

Some of the most common infractions on the open sand are:
  • Flags & Tags: No OHV decal on truck, car, motorhome. Red or Orange Flags (8”x 12”) must be displayed 9 feet above the ground on all vehicles
  • Fire extinguisher: No fire extinguisher on truck, car, motorhome
  • Lights: Lights must be used in limited visibility (before sunrise, after sunset, or when you cannot see clearly ahead for 100 feet).

Not making the trip this year. Still recovering from our 3 month Philippines trip. Seeing the orthopedic for more right hand rehab. Feeling like I won’t ever regain full use again. We’ll see.

I have a few details to work out, but it looks like I'll be able to make it this year.

Is there a link to the Facebook post? I can't seem to find it.

Here is a link to the event page. I think the group is private. Not really sure how it works as I hate Facebook, and only log in a couple times a year specifically for this event.
Davey Menendez is one of the admins if that helps.
