Hi There,

I recently purchased my FJ - came with a RevTek lift (which I think is 3 inch) Revtek Suspension | Toyota Suspensions - the rims are stock 17", and while the tires are aggressive Toyo MTs, they are stock size.

I'd like to switch to a slightly less aggressive tread for better road ride but bigger tires to fill out some of the space left by the lift. Assuming I keep the same lift and the same rims what are my options for more rubber? I'm thinking BFG ATs.

Will 33s fit with that lift without rubbing or any other mods? Will they fit on the 17 in rims (I noticed they have a 16.5in rim option for the 12.5)?

any other suggestions?

I am no expert here, but I have looked at tons of pics and read a lot. 33's would probably be fine. Worse case spend $400 beans and get a body mount chop to allievate the rubbing.

you got the lift....your wheels are fine.....get a set of 285 or 295 tires of your choice. If they rub the body mounts then chop them....if they dont...then leave them alone.

i run Toytec 3" OME lift (medium front and rear) with 17" alloy wheels clad with 295x70x17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. No rubbing yet offroad on body mounts....so not chopping. If you go with a mud terrain that is more aggressive you might get a little.
also our lifts are different...so if you might still need the chop but wont know until you get the tires.

you can do the chop yourself also....grinder....hacksaw....whatever you got. Some weld a piece to replace end cap and then paint black...others just file it smooth...prime, paint and leave alone. You can do it for the cost of the cutting blade and paint...or pay someone to do it for you.

good luck

I have 3" lift stock 17" wheels and 285 BFG AT. No rub. No chop. It does get to within about 1/4" to 1/2" of the mount on one side with the wheel turned and stuffed in the wheel well.

I have a 3" OME lift and the 17" stock rims. Just put 285 Dueler AT Revos on mine and no rubbing. They have a great ride and still look "tough".
