So I dynamat'ed the doors this weekend, installed new 6x9's in the doors, and 3 1/2's in the dash.

When I turn the volume up too high I get this very annoying popping sound from the dash speakers. They work fine and sound great until I hit about 50+ volume on the radio.

They are Boston Acoustics S35 3-1/2. Using factory headunit, and no amp.

I assume I just need to put some bass blockers on them, but I'm not really sure. Any audio guys here?

Well I went by best buy today picked up some 5 dollar bass blockers. Worked great. Volume at max, and no popping.

False alarm thread.

For the most part speakers will improve your sound quality not make it louder.

Louder = more power = amp

Well for reference, I replaced my speakers with

Boston Acoustics S35 3-1/2 (with bass blockers) (dash)
Kenwood KFC-6982IE 6x9 (front doors)

I can turn the volume up to max on the fjammer and still have clarity. I just wish I had a bigger sub now. But I'm very impressed with my sound upgrade considering I didn't get an amp or a aftermarket headunit.

Funny thing is, I'm trying to figure out how to dynamat my door handle, the thing rattles a little at max volume. I cant hear it from inside the car of course, but someone outside could.
