I searched the web/forum, and yielded some results, but nothing that really answered the question.

I purchased the Kenwood DDX9702S, iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR, and HRD-RR-TO1 from Crutchfield. The paperwork says it will retain ALL OEM functionality, and even the Advisor confirmed before purchase (retained functionality being: steering wheel controls, amp, subwoofer, satellite radio, aux input, usb port).

Well, once wiring the harness, and flashing the module, I went to do the install. I ended up having a total of 3 leftover connections (2 from the FJ, one on the iDatalink harness) that didn't fit anywhere (1 was the blue satellite radio harness connection).

So, my question is, is there any way to retain the following OEM functionality (actually, ALL OEM functionality) with this headunit?

  • Reverse sonar beep
  • Backup camera IN REARVIEW MIRROR
  • Satellite radio via the OEM antenna/connection
  • AUX IN/USB OEM ports
  • Steering wheel controls
  • Bluetooth/mic/etc
This is all going in a 2013 FJC w/ JBL.

I'm about to go back out in the 19º weather, and reconnect the OEM radio.

Completely frustrated!

Thanks,

- AA

With the iDatalink, I was able to retain all steering wheel functionality, and the USB OEM port (I didn't really check anything else, because the speakers weren't working). Crutchfield thinks it may be a wiring error on my part, or a faulty unit. Everything should work, with the exception of the satellite antenna due to the connection type.

I'll update this thread when all is complete.

Also, another user used the same headunit, with the Metra version, and was able to keep all steering wheel functions, as well as the backup camera/sonar.

Shark Fin Antenna Adapter SFA12F can be used to connect xm tuner and factory antenna.
Thanks. Yep... I've seen this. I have the factory satellite tuner, that I need to connect to the back of the Kenwood. Everything I've looked up, says Toyota's connection from tuner to radio is proprietary.

so Chumley if i got this right the antenna adaptor works with the stock (((SiriurXM))) antenna but not the tuner? so he will still need the SiriusXM SXV300v1 tuner but can keep the factory antenna ... at 60.00 i would just run the antenna that came with the SiriusXM SXV300v1 and call it a day

I can see how this COULD work... the question is, whether my 2013 has the tuner built into the radio, or if there's a separate tuner.

Yep. I'm still waiting on the tech to call me back from Crutchfield (will follow up today) .

Like I said, according to iDatalink AND Crutchfield, everything OEM should work. Obviously, something isn't correct. There were a total of 5 connections coming from the FJ. Two didn't have anywhere to go... one was the blue connector (not shown... which is SiriusXM, the other is the connector all the way on the right in the pic*––*no idea what that is)

AFAIK ,The Kenwood is sat. ready and would need the additional xm tuner....the sfa12f would connect to the blue plug and then to the sat tuner sxv300 ...which would be plugged into the Kenwood...
Or use antenna that comes with the tuner.

Chumley.. have you done this? I would think the blue plug is coming from the existing SiriusXM tuner. I'm basically trying to avoid paying SiriusXM to activate a new tuner, but more importantly, utilize the existing antenna.

I have a Kenwood DDX790. w/idatalink
The backup camera in the rearview mirror is unaffected. Works fine.
I do not have sonar and never did, so I don't have any knowledge there.
The OEM USB port is disabled but there's a port in the glovebox for my memory stick.
The steering wheel controls on the left work fine, but the ones on the right (phone control) are disabled.
No XM tuner
Bluetooth works fine, but they had to install a new microphone in the headliner.
I didn't have the JBL speakers, so I don't know how good they are or if they're worth keeping. The FJammer speakers were garbage.

Yes I use factory antenna with sfa12f ...The stock radio that came out of my '12 has the XM ID code printed on it ...so I believe the tuner to be inside it.

I removed stock radio and installed 2din kenwood with xm sxv200 tuner and the sfa12f...most recently took out kenwood and installed single din alpine unit and use the sxv200 tuner and adapter as I did with the kenwood.

atomicage, there is no activation charge , you can get 3 free months which ends up costing 24.00 so not really free or get the 5 month promo package for 24.99 which is the better deal

Correct you are! Yep, I have the ID on the stock headunit. Thanks for that bit of info! So, with that SFA12F, did you connect this in the dash? Trying to figure out how you connected this.. it's saying it's 12 feet long.

Getting closer.....

Yep... I just remembered, I avoided the fee when I bought my FJ. I rolled all my account info to one account, rather than changing my radio ID. Thanks!

Update:

Here's what I have....

Steering wheel controls all work.
Backup camera in rearview mirror and reverse sonar beep work.
JBL sound system/sub works.
OEM USB input works.
OBDII connection works (although, very limited)
USB connection from Kenwood headunit/CarPlay works.

Side note: Had to install the Kenwood bluetooth mic (Couldn't get it to work without it).

Also, had to purchase the Sirius/XM SXV300V1 Tuner (which, thru Crutchfield, currently has a 100% mail-in rebate). As well, I picked up the SFA12F adapter cable to utilize the OEM satellite antenna.

My goal has been to utilize all of the factory buttons/etc. I think I have everything except for the physical bluetooth mic (and possibly the AUX in –*need a cable to test).

Thanks everyone for their help. I'll have photos and give a full report after the SiriusXM install.

Update:

SiriusXM tuner and antenna adapter arrived, plugged in no problem. Re-routed all of my wiring (GPS antenna to the passenger side dash speaker area, BT mic to the steering wheel column). Everything works great! All factory controls work, minus the Bluetooth mic. From what I can tell, the harness that isn't connected to anything from the FJ, is for the BT audio/power. Also, still haven't had a chance to get an AUX line to test the AUX IN. USB works great. CarPlay works great...

Thanks again everyone that contributed...
