I accidentally previously posted this in the wrong spot.
To all those who have gone through the hassle of removing your mirrors to swap the bulbs: If you tilt the mirror towards the ground, you'll have access to R/I the bulb. It takes a bit of patience and dexterity, but with two slim screwdrivers or picks, it can be done. It saves the worry of breaking the mirror or the little plastic tabs. 10 minutes tops.
I tried the PIAA's and didn't like the blue tone, so I went back to the stock bulb. Maybe I'll try the Sylvanias.

holy smokes, i tried this. I'll say one thing, its doable, but it was a pain in the arse. I didn't break anything, i used a pair of chopstics, but something like bamboo chopsticks might have been stronger and better. Don't even think you can hold it with your fingers, as you can't. Unless you have small hands, and still I would say no way. First push the insides of the mirror in, right side on left mirror, left side on the right mirror and press both bottoms of the mirror in. That leaves about an 1 1/4 inch gap on the outer top corners that you can see the light bulb connector. Theres an orange base to the connector that has the 2 wires on it. Push this part down, it will be facing you, just push it down and it will turn and then come out. Next use the chopstick to pull the 2 wires so the connector comes up to the edge of the gap, there you can turn it around and pull out the bulb and put the new one back in. Next check how the bulb connector is alligned, the 4 square tabs that hold it in the socket, theres one bigger one, look at the socket and make sure you align it the same way. Once or if you get it pushed back in, hold the back of it with one chopstick and push up the connector end till it locks in place again. It took me a frustrating 30 minutes to do it, but the OP was right, it is possible and it won't break anything. Anyways thanks Mantis, for this alternate way.

Yes. I looked at it yesterday and will probably give this a try today as I can not take the mirror apart. Mine just will not cooperate and I don't want to break anything. I will try to remember to take pics along the way. :roller:

It's very... very easy to remove the mirror if you know where to insert the (insulated/taped) flat head screw driver and pry it.

Here are some tips and pictures that I took when I installed the Muth mirror and signal lights.

Mirror is removed and upside down. The mediun size screw drive position inside the assembly.

The piece on mirrow swivel base where the bottom tabs on the mirror are mated to.

It's hard to see the backside of the mirror when it's attached to the base.
Using the H (in the word "THEY") as your guide, insert the screw driver till it's engage (about 2.75" deep). Pry the mirror by lifting the screw driver handle.

I love this forum, same job but anywhere from 30minutes to 30seconds. Tools, anywhere from chopsticks, lock picks to homemade insulated screwdrivers. I probably would have the freakin thing in broken pieces after 20 minutes of cursing the Toyota engineer who designed this.
I wonder what a dealer gets to charge to replace a lamp.

One Million Rep Points (if they were available) to you!!!

I don't think I can count the number of times I went to change these bulbs and could not figure it out. I know there have been instructions on this numerous times, but this is the schiznit!!! It took less than 5 minutes to do both sides with these instructions. The tabs that hold the mirror in place come off VERY EASILY if you follow his instructions. THANKS!!!! :roller:

BTW, I don't think I wanted to change them any more because they needed to be brighter or anything like that. I was at the point where I did not want this mod to get the best of me!! :)

Quick question, should itry this when its cold out like in the 30s? or should i heat the mirrors with a hair dryer so nothing snaps?
Thanks in advance

I would heat it up first. In the first picture at the 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock in relation to the "X" you see in the middle are 2 plastic clips in each of the three locations that snap on and off. I could see them breaking because of the cold. Just my .02!!

It's very easy, I had my bulbs for 2 months also and was scared to break something,so the weather was in the 60s today so i gave it a shot.
Just read this thread, the mirrors pop off very easy,i think i had a harder time trying to snap the mirrors back into place,i just wasn't sure if they were in right or not but everything went smooth. I installed amber LEDs and IMO they look alot better than white.
Give it a shot

I too installed amber LEDs a while back. They seemed a bit loose in the sockets so added a dab from a hot glue gun to hold them in better.

One word of caution... never try to pry from the top, only the 3, 6 and 9 O'clock positions. There are two tabs shown in the pictures at the top, I broke one of them. The mirror still works though, hasn't moved. But, oops for sure.

Just did the PIAA bulb upgrade for the mirrors and I'm a little disappointed in how they look. It took 10 minutes to pop the mirrors off (thanks for the instructions). It's one of those things that far easier then you think, popping the mirrors and making sure they were snapped in place was my only concern but then again I always measure twice, cut once attitude.

Here's the problem, they're too damn blue! I'll post the pics later but here's the problem and it's not with the PIAA's, it's the lens on the mirror! I took a photo of the bulb turned on but not in place and its a powerful LED white, you stick it behind the hazy tinted lens and its as blue as the sky so to answer another post about trying Silverstars that's not going to work! I even took a picture with my white LED mini-mag light stuck in the lens hole and guess what....blue! Is here anyone that makes clear lenses?!??! These remind of the older Fox Body Mustang lenses that turned yellow and foggy after time but these are on a brand new truck!

Put Piaas in your mirrors!
