Quick question for those who've ripped their FJs apart;
I want to mount a Bluetooth radar detector behind my rearview mirror. Has anyone tried to tap power from the rearview mirror? Or is there a harness or power supply that goes to the dome light that can be tapped?
And would there be voltage/amp concerns?

Cobra makes a hardwire kit, but I'm trying not to tear the truck apart just for this one unit. Trying to make it as clean and unnoticable as possible.

You can tap power from the fuse panel under the steering wheel. At that point you can run the wiring behind the drivers side A-pillar and just inside the headliner where it meets the windshield. All you have to do is remove the grab handle (10mm socket), pull off the pillar cover and remove the drivers front visor. Should take all of 20 minutes. :bigthumb:

Thanks for the info. As I as about to reply, I saw an ad for blendmount and mirror tap. Unfortunately neither are compatible with my FJ and Cobra. I'll have to go the long route.

They say they are not compatable, but the do work. Have had both Valentine 1 and scan guage installed for about two months, no problems. Didn't use the power tap, ran the lines as described above.

No, Valentine One is a company on it's own. He is the guy that was behind the Escort brand technology, before he started Valentine.

Well maybe they'll consider a (iRadar) Cobra mount soon, which is a blade type mount.
Meantime I'll run new lines as recommended. I can clean up my iPhone mount while I'm at it.
