Rear Power Outlet

I just picked up a new 2008 FJ for my business and have enjoyed every moment. However I didn't realize it when I bought it but its missing a rear power outlet like some models have. Is it possible to have it installed by either the dealer or myself? The parts guy says he doesn't have any packages that would help.

install it yourself, many (including myself) have added rear auxilary 12V outlets as well as power invertors. just read up and get the appropriate gauge wiring.
I think he means the 110
I agree, I believe he means the 110V.

You'd definitely be better off installing a decent aftermarket inverter. They're inexpensive and widely available. Super simple install, lots of help here.
yep.. he means 110V ... I didn't have one in my rig either and retro fitting the factory one will ost abot 1500 in Toyota parts .. Ouch .. not worth it. As others have mentioned, get a cheap inverter and run it off of the 12V alread back there. It is limited 12V, but should be enough for a small inverter.....OR you can wait for my 110V after market install. I have a 1500W Zantrax that I plan to install once my Vacation is over. It will use factory switch and plug (optional for those that like it stock). I will have a full write up on cable size, length and where to run it. Where to position a fat 1500W inverter, etc.

I put in a 400w inverter and outlets in the center console and the rear left side and have been very happy with it. Read about it here: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/stereo-electronics/16823-400w-inverter-installation.html

Take care,

I was hoping for the stock appearance of dropping it in because I think my investor will get pissed when he finds out I'm tearing about the rig to install something else. I talked to a mechanic today and he said it would be a matter of getting a crash manual from a body shop and looking to see how the harness is rigged up.
Welcome aboard.
After market is the way to go. The stock inverter I have does not handle much.
X2, the factory one isn't really that use full, you're better off just installing a few 12v outlets and getting a good inverter to plug into the 12V.
Hey guys I know is a very old topic but just going to try it..does anyone know where to buy the rear power outlet switch for cheap??? THanks

Yes the factory 110 does sound nice, but the mod with inverter is cheaper and you will be able to plug in more stuff
I know for a fact the factory 400w inverter will run a 32"lcd and a ps3.:rocker:

Yes, it should. But it may require you to be in PARK, with the engine running to generate at the 400 vs. 100 watt level. Either way, the OEM inverter is setup to run only while the engine is running, unlike the aftermarket ones.

Of course, I wouldn't run an aftermarket one too long while the engine is off, lest it drain the battery too much.
Does anybody know the part # for the power outlet button??? I got the number for the socket but need the button that turns it on

Did you ever find this?

Is there a good how-to for this mod anywhere? My searching has turned up nothing...
