REGULAR or PREMIUM?

Okay. So I know our FJC gas panel door has the little sticker which reads, PREMIUM ONLY, yet in the manual it gives us the option for either one depending upon whether or not you want full performance.

My question to everyone is, which gas have you been pumping? Regular? Premium? Or maybe usually regular and once in awhile premium?

I'm asking this question because I've been pumping premium all this time, but with the gas prices increasing more and more I'd like to have the option of regular, as long as it's okay in the long run (and as long as you guys are doing it too hehe).

Thanks!

There are many thread that have discussed this topic previously - for more info try to do a search on this topic.

The quick answer is you can use regular fuel in the FJC with no problems, although you may have slightly reduced performance. Toyota released a Technical Service Bulletin that said the sticker on the gas door was a recommendation for max performance, but that regular octane fuel is safe to use. Toyota estimated about a 10% reduction in power due to timing / fuel mixture changes needed to accommodate the lower octane and still prevent detonation, but many have said they felt no drop in actual performance, so the jury's out...:)
With gas prices these days, I just use regular to save some money. I would rather sacrifice a little performance to save more money.:bigthumb:
Thanks a lot guys, and forgive me for not using the search option. I'm still new to the site and I'm not familiar with everything. I will certainly use that next time before I create a thread. Thanks again!
I've religiously used premium fuel in my rig and in the last two fills have used only regular. I don't think it runs at peak but I've seen no ill effects except maybe slightly on pickup. I actually got the best gas mileage recently with regular. Instead of my usual 12.5 MPG I got 13 MPG!
i have just about 18,000 miles and have used only reg unleaded since day one
Jeesaloo!
Premium.
Nothing but Regular (87 octane) since day one, last tank yielded 19.3 MPG.
Kool. Thanks guys! A big difference on mileage certainly depends upon the amount and weight of all our add ons! :D

yes i realize this also qualifies as spam
Premium....no matter what gas goes up to, I will continue to use premium fuel. :)
PREMIUM only here....fek em....don't care if gas hits 10 bucks a gallon..they can eat me
Premium only...the marginal cost is really small when you factor in the increased mileage.
Regular is actually listed as OK in the manual(read manual for p#). I have a 6MT and cant stand anything but premium as it caused the FJ to have a druggy feel. It did not affect mileage however.
93 here.. always have make the fj happy and better mpg...worth the extra 1.00
