I'd like some feedback from you about a replacement Headunit for my 2012

First - some background. I have installed receivers/speakers in every vehicle I have ever owned. I have a good feel for sound, quality etc.

My issue: There are so many choices these days! I really don't need a ton of bells and whistles on my HU. Here's the profile I'm looking for:

  • Double or single DIN - prefer Double DIN
  • Navigation - optional, not needed
  • DVD - optional, not required.
  • iPhone compatability - need BT audio streaming only. Phone optional
  • Buttons and response time - very important. I need to be able to scroll and browse quickly. I tend to search for songs/artists, and I tend to adjust EQ settings a lot. Button response time impt.
  • Power - will feed a 500W amp, so just make sure I have at least 2 pairs of outputs
  • Subwoofer out - a must
  • Sound Quality - obviously impt
  • Sirius/XM - YES
  • Steering wheel controllable - Yes
  • Simple is better than complicated

I have historically always gotten Pioneer. The AVH-X5500BHS looks appealing, but before I pull the trigger, is there a HU I'm missing?

Thanks

I bought a Kenwood DDX 470. It does everything I need it to do. It does have everything you listed. I don't use the DVD player at all. Bluetooth audio works good but without an ipod hookup scrolling through songs is done on the phone as it doesn't read everything that is on the phone.

I have been very, very happy with my AVH-X5500BHS. Here's my install post: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...ormtxs-trail-warrior-build-2.html#post2361288

You'll need the Metra Axxess AWSC to get your steering controls. Make sure you get these:

Additional Wiring harness (wires up the AUX and everything like that, in additional to the wiring provided by Crutchfield)

Parking DVD bypass. Allows you to play DVDs while not in Park. The old 12v relay trick doesn't work.

I just noticed that the Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS has an 8 band equalizer; the Kenwood has only 3 bands. Is this correct?
That is correct, with several presets and 2 user presets. Only complaint on the user presets is that any time you monkey with the equalizer, it stores the changes in preset 1. It will leave preset 2 alone though, so that's where I store my main preset.

Can those white stickers on the Pioneer be peeled off? I just ordered this HU today. It should be here Wednesday.
