Katemcy Rocks is the absolute best wheeling around SA. Its as mild or as wild as you want it to be. Its in Mason, Texas which is pretty close to Fredericksburg. katemcyrocks

Trees Ranch is also pretty good, lots of different trails as well as creekbeds. TreesRanch.com

Longs Ranch longranch.org is also similiar to Trees its near Llano

Depends on what kind of wheeling your looking for, but I would recommend Katemcy, we have had a stock '76 Land Cruiser and a heavily modified Jeep on the same trails and had a blast all day. Take lots of water and some shade though...

I found a link or thier website for the photo gallery of the annual Lone Star Land Cruiser run they have every year TON OHV, Jeeps, and 4WD Galleries :: LSLC 08'

Thanks for all of the good info:rocker: I will be putting it to use soon.
You can also hit Boulder Creek.

I was in san antonio last weekend visiting some friends to go wakeboarding on LBJ. The scenery there and the completely different type of terrain looks AWESOME.

So much better than the mud and ruts we have here.
I really want to take a trip to katemcy. maybe in the fall.
Sounds as if i will have to check this place out. Any one from San Antonio up for a trip to Katemcy? I would love to take a trip up with one two or maor rigs. Let plan a trip. Any takers?
I would love to go, but the FJ is still a stocker and I am busy for the next few weeks. I bet you can talk some people into it though.

BTW, I saw an FJ that looked an awful lot like yours today on IH10 and Dezavala around 1:30PM..??

Your a great candidate for the Aggie Highway Trail and if you check out these pics here you will see several bone stock FJ's making it through the trails with ease.
five, whats the best way to stay there? camp or nearby motel? thx.

the rocks there seem to provide more grip than the slicks in moab. Cool!

Yea, I have been to Katemcy a bunch of times and I know I could have fun with a stocker, but I used to have a modded out Jeep and I dont know if I could control myself from pushing the wifes 2wd FJ a little too hard...

As for camping or staying at a hotel, I always stayed at the hotels in Mason, its only about 15 to 20 mins away from the entrance. I guess it all depends on how many beers you have after sitting around with Shain and Randy when your done with wheelin.

No it wasent me havent been on I10 this weekend at all. A stocker will still do awesome off road the Fj is a very able SUV off road even stock!
I hear Cline Ranch in Lakehills is a good place, but they no longer have a website. I'm not sure if they are up and running full time again or not. It sounds like they will take groups of 5 and up even if they are not open.

Cline's is great, and I'm itching to get out this weekend. It's $30 per vehicle including one passenger, and a 6 truck minimum to wheel. I'm down, this is a lot closer than the trip to Boulder Creek that SA Offroad is planning for Friday. I'm down!

I just want to meet up with some people and do some wheelin. I am down and have the next few weekend free. let me know...
You should check out SA Offroad ( saoffroad.com ) as those guys seem to go out very often and have regular meets. I have the same s/n on that forum as I do here, "TXterra37". Also, my weekends are pretty free as well. Feel free to hit me up and we can figure something out.
