Well I did my hitch install yesterday and the key is patience...I must thank all  for advising me to chase all of the holes...made a world of difference. I also had to dremel the two slotted holes on the hitch and the alignment was out by about 1/16"...took some time, repainted the raw steel and afterwards the bolts all tightened up to 80ft/lbs with no stripping or weld nuts giving way. Used Loctite on all threads and reinstalled with the TT valance. Took a good 4 hours... I can't imagine how the dealer would have done this...I am sure it would have been a disaster... First time using a tap and it was pretty easy but was cautious not to strip out the existing thread!

Here are some pics...

Chasing with my M12x1.25 tap purchased from Merlin Tools on Amazon (took about three weeks to get from China)

coming along nicely :)

how do you like the horns? are you a wiring guru? a buddy has the hellas in his Subaru and I like the volume, but I would like a little less Euro sound (if that makes sense)

I've got roof lights and a backup light in "The Plans" but don't know the first thing about wiring...

I like the write up and the break down of the info to me, nice trivia to know

Thanks F Joy. My blackout kit is on its way and I am in the midst of the rear cargo transformation. I am having a blast transforming the rig...

Wiring - yes I am pretty good at it. Always need to research the heck outta it but doing it isn't a problem. I have done a lot with my VW building custom wiring harnesses and the like. I wouldn't say I am a master but I am not afraid to tackle a job.

I do like the horns...not loud at all in the cabin but standing in front of the rig they're piercing!

are you planning any lights too?

my buddy wanted to show off his hellas ... I found what you said to be very true... we went to gas up and he hit the horns and from inside it was meh ... I stood out in front while he was filling the gas tank and he hit them ... my ears rang the whole way home lol

Eventually..... Would like to do a couple of PIAA's or an LED bar on the front bumper. A brighter back up light and a rear fog light would also be on the agenda but too many other things I 'need' to do first.

lol ... ya I don't know about NEED but I've got plenty of WANTS :)

the only thing holding me back from getting them all done is the skills to wrench and run wire....

and the time.....

and the cash....

lol ... besides those simple little things I'm all set

Nice build man! Can you post some more pics of the wheels with your FJ in view. I'm really liking those in black.

Thanks! Will do, once I get rid of all the exterior silver and install my TT blackout kit. I can't stand the silver on the 'military' FJ colors. Kit should arrive this week and hopefully next weekend I'll get it done. Still need to dump or paint the spare tire disc. Haven't quite decided on that yet but I have bought the paint for it.
