There are scanner on the market that will read each sensor separately. But the car has to be capable of doing it also.

Does anyone know if a 2011 would work for this function?

Any recommendations for scanners, brand, etc?

I use iCarsoft for diagnostics, monitoring, and resetting codes. There are other brands that have more functionality but, this one meets my needs. I would suggest looking it up and seeing if it will cover all your needs.

I paid $160 a few years back for that one. I also used one for my Land Rover and BMW.

As I have had to rarely use it for the FJ, I can tell you from my Land Rover experience that I have used it to monitor intake temp, O2 sensors, coolant temp, oil pressure, and voltage readings. Forgot, ABS sensors as well

When you say individual sensors, can you give me an example?

I use a. Vepeek OBD reader and the OBD Fusion App on my phone. $10 gets you the enhanced programme which will read all the ECU’s etc (most only read the engine ECU)

An example:
A P0420 code [Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)]
This code can come from the HO2 sensor or the Air/Flow sensor. But you do not know which one.

I saw a youtube video that said some scanners can read each sensor so you know which one set off the code.

It also said your car has to be able to do it also.

If and the there will be that time, I throw that code I will just go ahead and change them all. The life span is designed into them all. They are cheap and critical thinking leads to that decision. But that is just me.

What brand sensors, etc is good quality without braking the bank.

Torque pro, and an OBD Bluetooth adapter reads pretty much everything if I remember right. Haven't used it in a while, so I could be wrong. Denso sensors are the ones you want, you get what you pay for.
