Seatbelt slow to retract - rear seats especially

1008 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  chriskrossapplesauce
I'm thinking of a winter maintenance project....

My seatbelts don't retract very well. The driver's is ok but all the rest have gotten very slow and one rear seatbelt barely retracts at all.

If I were to take things apart and get to where the retractor is... and gave it some lubricant (likely a dry spray teflon or something similar) would that help??

Anyone with experience on this?

I wonder if when you get in there you might find all kind of dirt and crud from wheeling and a good cleaning will have to be done first. My only thought is how serviceable a seat belt retractor really is. Being a safety device I wonder if you'll find anti tamper bolts and such.

Have you pulled each belt out all the way out to see if its folded upon itself? It's a long shot but belts can perform normally for a short throw without the owner ever realizing that the belt is folded up just inside the piller. One wacky passenger can mess it up.

^I'll give that a try... I have 2 little wacky passengers that sit in the back :D
Maybe you should just aftermarket harnesses :grin
