Wanted to put a collection of information that will hopefully help others and save some time:

I dont want a permanent CB mounted, but a portable one primarily for trail use. There are a few of y'all without a CB (like me), and were interested in learning more. I recently did a lot of research on this forum and online and wanted to share a couple of links that I found helpful for what I plan on doing:

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/cb-ham-communications/129770-jimmys-cb-install.html - Credit to @jimmy-buffet

Before continuing I highly suggest reaching out to @Vegas_Nick to see if he can set-up you with a package. He will take GREAT care of you!

So after evaluation I decided to go with the following set-up:
Midland 75-822 CB
All Pro Bandi Mount (others appear to have rust or fitment issues with some of the HD & QR hardware below) http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/texas/314946-bandi-vs-boztec-antenna-mount.html
Combo Package - 3' Firestick, 18' coax cable with removable connection, Firestick HD spring (No Quick Release Needed)
Plus the extra pieces from Jimmy's install to mount it to the shifter bulkhead:

I suggest you check with @Vegas_Nick, but here are Links to products if you want to go about it solo:

Bulkhead Adapter:

Dashboad Mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NLQ2MO/
appears to be a great portable as you need it system, and another option is to get a Mag Mount (magnetic) antenna that mounts to the roof near one of the doors. Range may be limited but the range will be limited to begin with using this portable CB with limited power... but is great for trail runs or group travel within ~5 miles of eachother.

I have a similiar set-up but went with the Boztec mount. I also followed the Jimmy CB install method. In fact I did it at Jimmy's place with his guidance.

Combo Package - 3' Firestick, 18' coax cable with removable connection, Firestick HD spring & Quickrelease ($72)
Thanks for the shout-out! Gotta say, I'm a huge fan of how clean the Midland setup uninstalls when you don't want a permanently installed radio.

My only change to this would be to swap the Firestick for a Wilson Flex 3-4 foot antenna and skip the spring, just put a quick disconnect on it. The Firesticks don't have much flex, so people add the spring to help that. The problem then is that all the flex happens at the spring, and I've seen quick disconnects disintegrate from the inside out with all that force put on them. I run just the 3-foot Wilson with a quick disconnect and it's solid.

Thanks Spike! Just put my order in for everything, should have it before my next outing.
Cool - take your time with the install, and let me know if you have any questions. Jimmy's thread is a big help. FYI - you'll probably need a couple of zip ties

If you want a temporary set up then get a mag mount. A Wilson 1k or 5k, or a K40 will work great. Contrary to belief there is nothing wrong with a mag mount. RF is an AC wave and AC couples through capacitors which is what your RF ground connection becomes. Essentially RF doesn't know the difference. A roof mounted ¼~ antenna will probably outperform one in the back.
Temporary set up I'd opt for a willson 1000 and a small radio with a cigarette lighter adapter power cord.

Done :bigthumb:

BTW- the quick disconnect and spring are awesome and have prevented my antenna from being broken off while on some trails

I was debating running the Quick Disconnect. Then I got to thinking about driving around the city and having the antenna swaying in the wind all the time. I went ahead and attached it.....good thing I did as the 3' antenna is too tall for my garage door opening lol.

Fjx2 and I got the cable run yesterday afternoon. I decided I'd mount an antenna attachment point on the center console next to the switch panel. With the Midland 12V power adapter and antenna connection being attached to each other, I tried to come up with an easy clean looking install. I think we succeeded. I'll pickup a nylon or plastic cab to go over the silver attachment point on the console for when the CB is not being used.

Looks clean! One of the items in Jimmy's installed and the link above is a cap/knob. I think or cost around $5 shipped.

Ok, so I just ran the radio end of the antenna cable out the drivers side of the center console and it just lays under the seat when the handheld is not in use. But after gettin' in the way of dhutch while he was doing a nice clean job of mounting the antenna connector in his console, I've decided to reevaluate this design.

I think I'm going to relocate that cable along with power to the right side of the (AT) shifter knob to that empty plate.

I'm sure at least 19 current FJ owners have already posted up "How To" videos on You Tube that were done with great precision and detail.

Question is (and this is very important), has anyone found such a video with the same effort and dedication for this installation that has a chicken walking through the FJ?

THAT's the one I need...
