I was wondering if anyone had any pros and cons about Spidertrax vs. Downey wheel spacers.

  1. Downey is $20 less
  2. Spidertrax are anodized (cool color and better corrosion resistance?)
  3. Downey is "in stock"
  4. Spidertrax have been out of stock on the web site for a while

Anyone else have any + or - about either option? I have some 16" Tacoma wheels I want to mount and know they need spacers to work correctly.

Yeah, Spidertrax seem to be the de facto standard, have you heard anything bad about Downey though? Anyone know where the Spidertrax can be acquired since their web site shows "Out Of Stock"?

Here is where you go to get the RIGHT wheel spacer by spidertrax. https://www.4x4groupbuy.com/store/ I got mine there with great instructions and I have no problems at all. I have off road a few times and have been running them on the street for like 5000 miles. No issues at all. You can PM me for picks or just check my build thread. pics are there. Hope this helps. Here is a better direct link to the part needed. Spidertrax Wheelspacer Kit - Late Toyota WHS-007

I have the Downey Spacers and bought them for $$71 a pair since they do give a discount to us forum members.. Been on for 3 months with No problems... I was going to order the well known Spiders Trax but they were out of stock and to me well over priced... (Spidertrax $100-$120) a set opposed to $$71 a set from Downey.. Hey money is money big and small these days... :) Now I only wish URD would lower their price on the y-pipe for the fj... :)

So far - 10 votes for ST and 2 for DO, but no one has had anything negative to say about either! Thanks for all the feedback guys! Still making up my mind.

Downey is not hub-centric so you get to torque you wheels in the air from now on.

Spidertrax is hub-centric, your wheels mount exactly like the factory intended and on the ground nice and lazy.

unless you feel you really need more than an 1.25 inches stick with Spidertrax it'll be less work mounting wheels, and less stress on your studs(not to imply that they'll fail any time soon).

and $100 for a pair of 1.25" hub-centric bolt-on spacer is cheap, go look up other manufacturers and other bolt patters for other vehicles.

Skorp, you planning on coming out this weekend to the Orlando run that people are talking about? I'm thinking about going, If so I can show you how the wheel sits and explain it all better.

Torqueing lug-centric wheels means you have to raise (just to be sure everything remains Centered) the vehicle in which the vehicle has to be raised in the first place to take the rims off. Still alot cheaper and worth it to me. No vibrations or any problems as of yet... :)

Anyone have any idea how long I would have to wait if I ordered Spidertrax? I have a chance to buy a set of Tacoma steelies (16") for $250....I figure I could sell the 245's on them and recoup some cash.....But then I have to buy spacers....Grrrrr....I am so NOT good at decisions....

Just so you know, downey gets their spacers from trail gear, which are not hub-centric. If you call Trail Gear they will not recommend them for your FJ either, do to that fact, which is a big fact. Yet, even after I asking them(downey) a dozen times, to make sure what I was ordering was hub centric, and they assured me, they still sent me these lug centric spacers drop shipped from trail gear who already told me not to get them. Get spidertrax....Of course all I had to do was read this topic first....damn me!
