I had the stock rock rails installed on my FJ when I purchased it, so it would be covered under the Toyota warranty. When I noticed the paint chipping away on the rails a few months later, the dealer replaced the rails and advised that if it happened again they would have them stripped and powder coated. Now that it's happened again, the dealer says, "I don't remember saying that and I don't even know where it could be powder coated". After some strong conversation, the dealer agreed to either replace the rails or have them powder coated as long as it doesn't cost more than new rails. Since I'm not really familiar with powder coating, would it likely wear better than the original paint or should I just have the new rails installed and hope for the best? The warranty will likely run out in the next 1.5 years and I've been told that it will no longer be covered at that time.
