Strange Noise

While on a fishing expediation this weekend in southern Ohio we found our selves on the bottom side of a step muddy slope and while making our 1st attempt there was a noise that souded almost like a rock "grinding" as the driveshaft turned. After sliding back down, looked but couldn't find any evidence of anything. 2nd attempt was a bit more productive, but the noise was still there. Noise happened in both low & hi, rear was locked & A-trac was on. 1st real time offroad. No problems after that. Any info would be appreciated.

I agree - probably normal traction control sound. It freaked me out the first time I heard it as well!
low gear? traction control can be manually turned on and off...in low gear.. on my automatic...
Thks, I saw a note in the manual about a noise from there but thought i would ask around before going to the dealer.
Yes, low gear with an automatic
In 4L, if you have an ATRAC switch on the center pod, you can disable it with the push of a button if you like.

DEWFPO
Jumping in with another question, same topic... what's the beeping sound that happens sometimes when it gets a little "crazy"... is that traction control or something? It only happens for a second when I'm in 4L (i have the MT)... No ATRAC or Diff locked at the time...
can the tc be turned off in a manual?

Not sure what that is since it happened in 4L. If you were not in 4L, it would be the VSC kicking in. Happens very often in sandy conditions.

Ive only had it beep at me one time getting really loose on a dusty road going fast. No other beeps. I wish i would have known you can disconnect the vsc by unplugging the connector before going on that road. I couldn't accelerate at all with vsc stopping me.

Stick in 4hi and you won't have to worry about VSC anymore.

This would be my guess as well if youre wheels were slipping.
