I'm sure someone has. Better search results usually through Google - http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/suspension-steering-tech/148190-bilstein-5150s.html

I do believe the 5160s are actually the standard rear shock on the 2014 Trail Teams Ultimate Edition (TTUE) as seen here.

That being said, unless you are spending a lot of time running fast off road or just absolutely have to have a remote reservoir shock, for the money the Old Man Emu 60071L is probably a better deal with an extra 2+ inches of travel.

Old Man Emu 60071L - approx $200-215/pair - 11.25in travel

Bilstein 5160 - approx $400.pair - 8.78in travel (Old P/N 25-177909, New P/N 25-227611)

Check out this http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...tch-toytec-superflex-springs.html#post4045545 thread as well, inspired by the 'Superflexy On The Cheap' thread that we're posting in.

Big thanks to Cashnutz73 and mach1dsg for the knowledge I'm just passing along. :bigthumb:

Thanks for the answer, but I was interested if someone tried Bilstein 5160 for Jeep TJ that jtmroczk was talking about. It has 11.95" travel.

Oops, missed that. Apologies. Are those a straight threaded shaft at the top that bolt right up, or do they have a heim joint?

I believe the 5160s for a Jeep will work, although they may require at least a 1.5"
bump stop if running the way described in the link Switawi posted. Here's the specs:

OME 60071L (approx $200pr)
Compressed... 15.23"
Extended......... 26.49"
Travel............... 11.25" (approx)

Bilstein 5160 part # 25-187809 (approx $350pr)
Compressed... 16.44"
Extended......... 28.39"
Travel............... 11.95" (approx)

Both are the same mounting style, although I'm not sure if the Bilsteins will slide right on to an FJ the way the OME do.

It has stem and bar pin, so it has to be modified to fit FJ. I have long Pro Comp shocks now and Toytec springs, but want something of more quality.

^^^ this is what I am concerned with in regards to the procomp shocks. I drive so many miles a year, I really don't want to change the shocks every year. Something that can go 60k - 80k miles would be nice. Is that too ridiculous for a lifted FJ?

And that right there might be the best argument in favor of the Old Man Emu shock mentioned before, the 60071L - http://trdparts4u.toyotaofdallas.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-6250

Originally made as an 'extended travel' option for the rear of the 80-Series Land Cruiser running the OME 'Heavy' coil springs.

They should enjoy a really long service life on the rear of an FJC.

And these bolt right up to the FJ? And will last that mileage? What's the typical costs? I'm driving roughly 40k a year....
Link to purchase them was in my previous post, they are $200-$215/pair pretty much.

Old Man Emu develops their shocks to withstand miles and miles of washboard dirt roads in the outback (they call it 'corrugations' down under) so I figure that will give me years of service and at least 200k miles of the driving I do, which is mostly pavement anyway.

Used with some extended sway bar links (Skyjacker P/N SBE702) that allow for extra travel over stock, retain your rear sway bar (for us daily drivers), and the the links also keep the suspension droop limited in severe flex situation as Cashnutz73 found out. This was his initial post.

Did someone ring? The autoguide app is taking an extended vacation so I haven't been on much the last couple days.

Correction on the shocks. I was running OME 80 series shocks that I thought were for the front. I broke one after it came loose and had to get new ones.

The ones I received from TRDParts4U are labeled as 80 series rears. I was running those shocks with OME mediums. At full extension the tops of the springs would come loose. I moved to the Toytec Superflex springs and OME 80 series rear lifted shocks at the same time. When we set the truck on the ground I noticed that I had lost a slight bit of ride height. I put the OME 10 mm rear spacers in that I ordered. We had to compress the spring to get them in but it put the ride height back. Full droop was limited by the swaybar and not the shocks. I put the Skyjacker extended swaybar links on and I tested the flex and it seems to be good. I havnt been wheeling yet with the new springs and shocks.

I have been running the 80 series shocks for 2 1/2 years. I had to add spacers because the tires rubbed the inside of the wheel well at full stuff. 285/75/16. This also slowly deteriorated my sway bar end links.

I hope that helps but I'm on my iPhone on the regular site and the words are rather tiny.

All pictures above from Cashnutz73.

Awesome, what's the setup now ?

I've got the Procomp shocks, toytec super flex springs, extended brake lines, and Spidertrax spacers.

I just swung by toytec yesterday and picked up a set of their HD coils, I've got so much weight in the back of my FJ for this trip it was sagging like crazy.

A reminder of what you'll need to run that setup, play close attention because without 35's, that bumpstop would have to be longer, let alone if you'll be giving some speed to the setup. jtm said 1.5 was enough for slow stuff, but he'll move to 2" if going a little too fast. Plus you'll also contact the upper control arms with this setup, so some LCA's in the back with the offset could help.

The current part bumper is Pro-comp #929510, this is 29.77" extended, 17.09" compressed, for 12.44" travel.
EXP-600020 is the lower bushing from Sumit Racing.
Metaltech spring at 29.25" is barely long enough, maybe not LOL
Extended brake lines, wheel speed sensor lines and diff actuator lines are all a must have.
Bump stop spacers of minimum 1.5"

This is what I'm running now with 35" tires on stock wheels with 1.25" wheel spacers

Something else you could do is fabricate, or perhaps buy (if it will fit the shock) a mount for the lower portion of the shock. I was at a offroad show couple of days ago grabbing some ideas for something like this. I think The Bilsteins that Toytec sell comes with an adapter that would probably be ideal for a longer shock like the 929510, but I don't know if it'll fit the Procomp shock, the idea is to extended the mount so when the shock compresses, you won't need a huge bumpstop to stop the shock from compressing short.
Anything past 15.5" compressed will require to space the bumpstop, unless you had a a way to extend the lower mount upwards.

My interpretation of this thread was that bump stop extensions were not needed except to keep a large(35") tire from digging in to the wheel well. I'll be running stock size tires for the foreseeable future. If I need to extend the bump stop to prevent too much up travel I'll just make something out of square tubing. I will not be doing any high or even medium speed off-roading.

Never mind I saw your list a couple of posts back. You might re read the entire thread again. I think you would want the procomp shocks jtm was running in 1st page or v1, the shocks you listed are v3 :) and you need more items in your list to make them work, unless you already have those...

$hit. Found it on page 4. Ugh. Guess it's not a huge mistake. Will only cost me return shipping. Luckily Summit Racing is fairly local. Not worth the drive but hopefully shipping won't be too much and I got my first order next day. They literally shipped out in the middle of the night!

Thanks. I had even bookmarked your build thread a while back too. Should have posted my parts list before ordering but oh well. Inexpensive mistake, thanks for catching it.

Updated Parts
Front: Bilstein 5100 on highest notch
Rear: ProComp 926514 shocks with 3/4" bushing, daystar poly spacer, extended brake lines

Ditch the Daystar spacer, you can't do long travel in the rear with stock springs and a spacer or any other standard travel spring with spacer., you need longer springs (Toytec Superflex springs or MT long travel springs), you'll also need to extend the brake lines.
