First, I have researched the forum but still have a few questions.

My 2013 FJ TT has about 93,000 miles. Here are my questions:

1) What is the typical life expectancy of shocks/struts for FJ TT's mostly driven on paved roads? At best, I drive a few miles a week on dirt/gravel roads.

2) What is the life expectancy for the OEM rear springs on a 13 FJ TT? Should I replace them when I replace the rear shocks? I have stock OEM bumpers & no additional accessories although I occasionally haul my bass boat or a 12 foot trailer.

3) I was thinking about replacing the front with Bilsteins with 6112's & the rears with 5160's. I'm fairly handy. Is this a job that can be handled by mortals without making me crazy or would I be better off having the dealer do it?

4) How did you guys attach the 5160 reservoir to the frame?

I can't answer all of your questions, but I can answer a few.

We didn't do the shock install ourselves, because we didn't want to mess with trying to compress the springs. There are posts and videos on how to use the weight of the FJ to do it. That has worked for a lot of people.

We did replace the rear springs ourselves. We did it because we wanted to do a lift. If you are just leveling the FJ, it's difficult to imagine that you'd need to replace them for being worn out.

I can tell you from experience that I love my 6112/5160 setup. I'd do the same thing again without hesitation. The ride is better both on and off road.

Putting the rear shocks/ spring wasn’t a big deal and there are tons of videos out there. Basically once you unbolt the lower shock and lower the jack (needed to raise the axle to take tension off the lower shock bolt) the rear spring will get loose enough to remove it. I’m no expert mechanic but it didn’t seem complicated.
